Gross Weight

There’s a 170 listed on Anchorage Craigslist claiming to have a 2500 pound gross weight limit. Anyone know of an STC that does such an increase? For reference, here’s the post: https://anchorage.craigslist.org/avo/d/renton-cessna-170b/7642626221.html I’m just curious about the gross weight claim, do...

Re: Continental PRIME IO-370 and Reiff

Bruce,

Talked to my IA and he’s in agreement with you. The installation is a minor alteration.

Re: Continental PRIME IO-370 and Reiff

Thanks Bruce. I’m far from an expert, but your logic towards a minor alteration makes sense to me. But I get in trouble all the time when expecting logic from the Feds. I’ll talk to my IA. I have some contacts at AOPA. I’ll reach out. Stoots has sold 42 of these kits, so there’s a few out there! I b...

Continental PRIME IO-370 and Reiff

Anyone that's done the IO-370 conversion using a Reiff preheat unit? The folks at Reiff seemed to have never heard of the engine and since it's not listed on their applications list, it probably needs a field approval. Though, the list says "Lycoming (and clones)". Just thought I'd see if ...

Re: IO-370 for AOPA Sweepstakes 170B

Blisters are required.

The engine is essentially a Lycoming clone.

My 370 and the parts kit arrive next week!

Re: 2022 Airventure

Always great to see you Jim and have a safe trip home. Next year (2023) we plan to have over 100 170's parking together for the "Cessna 170 Vintage Reunion" celebrating 75 years. See you there. Is there anywhere to register or sign up for next year? I’m definitely planning on attending an...

Fairbanks 170s

Any Fairbanks based 170 owners here? I’m in town and unexpectedly find myself with the weekend off, wondering if anyone wants to go flying! I’ve got my own 170 in the lower 48. I’ll chip in for gas!

Re: Delaire STC still available???

I spoke with Chris last week. He will return your call. The O-360 STC is still available, he did say pricing was going up for 2022, vicinity of $19k was his rough guess. He said parts would be available "this summer". I elected to pull the trigger on the Stoots STC. Lead times on engines a...

Re: Overhaul Quotes

Yeah, the 360 upgrade is tempting. The quotes I got from Stoots a while back was about $80k for a motor, STC, prop, and parts. That’s a lot of cheddar… Anyone done the “export an engine to Canada for repair and return” before? Looking at what the customs implications are. I don’t think there’s a big...

Overhaul Quotes

For what it’s worth, I thought I’d drop this here for anyone looking:

Got three quotes today:

$26000 from Okanagan, this is USD.

$35-something from Poplar Grove Airmotive.

$39400 from Western Skyways.

Best I can tell all using the same parts.

Re: Flying Magazine: "Approachable Aircraft: Cessna 170"

Jason is a member here and a new-ish 170 owner. I had the privilege of flying his airplane to the midwest from Arlington, WA for him.

The sunset picture at the top of the article is my 170, with myself and Jason flying it.

Solid article regarding the 170 for sure.

Re: Low Oil Pressure

Hey guys, been away from the airplane for work and life stuff for a month or so, unfortunately. I did make it back to this project today, so here's the latest. I did get the oil analysis back, nothing out of the ordinary, good comments, no evidence of any metal being made. I did check the screen aga...

You and me both. I should be back in town next week and plan on hooking a different gauge up to verify. I’ll let you know what comes of that.
