Re: Battery relocation
I used the DelAir STC for that. It's essentially a couple pieces of aluminum to mount the battery box on top of. If you do the DelAir take a look at how it is open on one side under the battery box, and you might want to reinforce that just a tad with another right angle piece up to the bottom of th...

Re: Camping with your plane
I've taken my wife plane camping a couple times now, and this last time we took a big tent we got at CostCo. Previously we had a small two man tent, and I will say if you can afford the weight and space take a nice big tent you can stand up in

That's sad news to hear about your plane Bruce, I hope you can get her flying again.

Re: Lycoming O-340 Engine
But I don't think Lyc. would really have a leg to stand on since they don't currently produce the motor. Oh well it's interesting at any rate, I wish both Lyc. and ECI the best since I've got goth companies parts in my plane.

Re: Lycoming O-340 Engine
That's what I was thinking, but as long as they are PMA'd for the original O340 you could legally source them for parts right?
I'm guessing they make the extra ten ponies with some induction improvements and most likely spinning it a bit faster.

Re: Lycoming O-340 Engine
You might check with CubCrafters and/or ECI on the 180hp O340 that they are putting in the Super Sport Cub. I don't know anything about it but it may be based on the old Lyc. 340 and there might be parts compatibility from ECI.

Re: 29" vs. 31" Alaska Bush Wheels
How much did they actually weigh? How are they wearing, and have you run into any cons besides the weight and drag? I've been planning on a set of 26s but I keep running out of money chasing other loose ends

Re: 29" vs. 31" Alaska Bush Wheels
I've seen 26" BWs on a couple 170s in Idaho, I'm really curious how they look with 31s. Post some pictures if you can.

Obtaining warranty service
I'm fishing for free suggestions here, at this point I'm looking at my next step as having a lawyer send out a collection letter of sorts, but I'm open to other ideas. I bought a brand new motor a couple years ago, and it came with a "36 month parts and labor warranty" now the plane is in ...

Re: Most Memorable Cockpit Companion
Most memorable cockpit companion? Nobody as interesting as the previous stories unfortunately. There were two of them, yellow jackets, who accompanied me into the friendly skies. I guess the rest of them were out and about that morning and these two sleepy heads hadn't gotten going yet. At any rate ...

Re: Propellor balance
Thanks,I'll take you up on that if I can get down there. I was planning a trip to the south west last spring but it fell through due to various factors. But if this VFR only pilot makes it down there it's a deal. My plane has the 180hp CS conversion also.

Re: Aircraft that pitch down with flap extension
The 74 172 I spent a few years flying before I got the 170 pitched down when you put the flaps on with the power set for approach. Add some flaps, set the trim, ad flaps, dial in some more trim. One side effect of this is that if you powered up for a go around with full flaps you needed to be ready ...

Re: 8.00-6 tire ply rating?
I got the 8-ply goodyears they seem to be working out fine.
I picked the 8 over the 6 because I do land on dirt strips sometimes and I wanted the stronger carcass for puncture resistance. I'm sure there's pros to the six ply besides the weight, but a flat tire sucks.
