Re: Cylinder for C-145 (O-300)

TSO = 511 hours.

The good news is that after I flew the plane an hour the compression cam up to 68 PSI.

Thanks for all the info and advice.

Re: Cylinder for C-145 (O-300)

Thanks y’all, lots of good advice on here. Right now the plan is to check compression again in about 5 to 10 hours, as suggested.

Next week I’ll be asking about how to produce better flying weather.

Re: Cylinder for C-145 (O-300)

Thanks Pete I would have looked but the owners manual is in the plane and the mechanic has all the other data sheets etc. I get about 2300 rpm when I start the take off roll.

Re: Cylinder for C-145 (O-300)

When I first got the plane I ran it with the oil level around 7-8 quarts and got 4-5 hours per quart but I now run it with the oil level between 5 and 6 quarts and get about 8 hours per quart. I haven’t really noticed any reduction in power. What rpm should I get on the ground? Thanks for all your h...

Re: Cylinder for C-145 (O-300)

Just spoke with mechanic he says that the leak is by the rings. I’ll probably fly it awhile and check the compression again when completely up to running temp. I was out of town during this annual. Thanks

Cylinder for C-145 (O-300)

Hi Ya'll,

Just completed annual and #6 cylinder measures 52 PSI. The rest are in the 70s.

Should this be replaced, and if so, which is the best way to go? Overhauled cylinder, new, etc?

Thanks, Mark

Re: Landing Gear Clunk/Lifting Plane

Hi All - Sorry I forget to update this sooner. The AP inspected the gear attachments and found no issues - including no motion in the gear legs when raised off the ground. I was out of town but was told chain hoists and straps were used to lift the plane. Thanks again, Mark

Re: Landing Gear Clunk/Lifting Plane

Good morning All, Just to clear up a misconception, I am a proud member who was graciously allowed to ask my question though I was late paying dues :D Also - if y0u ever get a chance to fly with CFII Ryan Smith (posted above), it would be well worth your time. Still awaiting appointment with AP. Wil...

Re: Landing Gear Clunk/Lifting Plane

Thanks Dustin - I plan to do an initial investigation with an AP/IA in the next couple of weeks. I'm not sure how he plans to raise the plane but he says he can do it and inspect the plane to see what repairs are needed all in a day. I'll take some pictures and relate what he does. The next question...

Re: Landing Gear Clunk/Lifting Plane

Thanks All - I think I need to jack the plane up WITHOUT putting any weight on the strut/gear in order to check for movement. Does this make sense?

Landing Gear Clunk/Lifting Plane

Hi Ya'll, My main gear is making a clunking sound and I have been advised to jack up the plane and inspect/repair bolts and shims. Does anyone know where the jack points are? Any help appreciated. Thanks, Mark
