Re: Broken rudder return spring
Just to close out the thread, got the new spring installed today. Not too bad. My A&P buddy did the work. As he put it, it was a lot easier than getting that #$&@% back seat in.

Broken rudder return spring
I had a suspicion this was a problem when I disconnected my tail wheel and saw the rudder pedals were not even and the rudder was slightly off to one side. I needed to hold a touch of right rudder in cruise. I’m not sure it hasn’t been that way since I’ve owned it. Now it’s IMG_8613.jpeg annual time...

Re: Overview of Cessna Aircraft Co.
The yellow Airmaster in the picture is 19464 or it could be 19494. I have flown 19464 in the mid eighties. My friend and IA owned it. He crashed in 1989. Departure stall on a bounced go around. Unfortunately he died a few months later. The wreck was purchased by persons unknown. I think it was rebui...

Thanks. New AD but no new work for those who have complied with the last one as far as I can tell

Re: Tempest/F&M filter adapter AD
I’m hearing from my IA there is a new AD now calling for a different gasket again. I think it’s 2023 1704 but I can’t find anything yet. He tells me he’s getting it electronically but doesn’t have the complete info yet
You guys hear anything?

Re: Soft Brake Pedal
This is similar with what happens in C2 and C3 corvettes when the trailing arms need rebuilding. Because a car does many more revolutions of the wheel than our planes, this action actually generates bubbles in the brake fluid. The owner suspects his brakes need bleeding and does so. Then has a firm ...

Re: Insight on panel
Here’s my 1952 panel. Serial number in my signature. First registered 6/10/1952. Trim color is red. It was born blue. The plastic panel behind the engine controls was blue, but was changed to gray when the trim was changed to red. The airplane is polished.

Sometimes if you email the picture to yourself the email system will reduce the size sufficiently. This works for me. I send the picture to myself via AOL and then store the result. Then use that result to post on forums. I do everything on iPhone and iPad so this is the easiest way for me.

Re: Inactive Engine regarding C145/O-300
Never said the engine was overhauled. Last overhaul was late 90’s. At that time valve springs were new, so I guess valve springs go on the list of calendar time limits just like hoses and gaskets. Not an overhaul, just a good idea. The idea first came to my attention when reading C172 forums (Contin...

Re: Inactive Engine regarding C145/O-300
Two separate thoughts: 1. Replacing gaskets and seals (if needed!) doesn’t require a major overhaul. Rod bearings don’t age by sitting. Connecting rods don’t age by sitting. You get the picture. Corrosion is the major risk in a sitting engine. If it has been stored in a dry heated hangar there’s a g...

Thanks, good to know. I have to check my S/N now! I have a spare sump with three bolts. I have to see what is in my airplane.

Re: Continental C-145 or O-300 ?
Just realized this thread is 16 years old!
If not already covered, I believe the accessory case and oil sump are different. C145 has three bolts accessory case to sump while the O-300 has 5. This was discussed recently in another thread specifically about the sump. Magnesium vs aluminum.

Field Approved 60 Amp Alternator
In looking through (and reading) the 337’s for my 170B I found I have a FAA Field Approved 337 for the alternator on my airplane. It is for a Cessna system apparently off a 150 according to the 337. If the association thinks this would be useful to have, let me know where to mail a copy.

Re: Presidential tars.
This has been a concern from Hawaii to Martha’s Vineyard ever since these Presidential TFRs were invented. In the past most of these guys had two homes to go to or went on vacation in different places. Our current President appears to only go to two places and they are very close to each other. I on...
