Re: Blow by and compression

I know it is going out the exhaust because I find it on my flying wires when on floats.
Just curious:
What are you finding on your wires; is it oil (liquid) or carbon? Are you checking leak down with the engine at normal operating temp?

Please let us know what you find after doing the leak down after warming the engine to normal operating temp.

Re: Blow by and compression

Bruce: I had similar issues with my c-145-2. The extended breather tube didn't work. I would suggest to do your cylinder leak down test with the cylinders hot. The dark oil does indicate blow by as LB mentioned. When you find the cylinder with the rings stuck, check the push rod tubes for exhaust le...

Re: First Plane Rides

First ride was in a Brantly Helicopter with my uncle who was a test pilot for Brantly. He picked me up at the High School and flew me to Lansing, MI airport. It was probably around 1965.

I am sure we would spent a lot more time talking if we had known of our common 170 interests. I hope you and Becky are doing well and hope to camp next to you again some time.

Re: Fuel pump pressure

I flew mine last night and the pressure is running around 5 psi. Of course the gauge was calibrated at the factory some 60 plus years ago or replaced and not entered in the logs. The interesting thing is that the green arc on the guage is 0 to 2 psi and the red line is 5.5 or so. I can't believe 0 w...

Re: Congratulations to one of our own!

John:
No problem and it is a small world. I ended up flying back on Saturday and except for flying under the "front" near Chicago and around thunderstorms near Chatanooga, the weather was ok. We will have to get together at next OSH.
Thx,

I wish I had known that was you when I mentioned to you that you should stay for the awards on Saturday night. You do have a very nice and original Swift.

Re: Fuel pump pressure

I can't think of any control for the fuel pressure except for the pump itself. The check valve only controls the direction of flow. The next time I start mine, I will verify the pressure and advise on what I am getting. I replaced my pump about 2 years ago.

I was advised a few years ago that the flap return springs are p/n 0523207. I have not verified the number.

Re: Oshkosh Parking

I am not aware of any 170 type parking this year. Do get a copy of the Notam on Airventure.com. If you are flying in with a classic or vintage, you can park "VAP" or camp "VAC". Try to get there early for a good spot or you could be camping in "Fond du Lac" which is at ...

Re: Tach hour meter quit

You might consider having it repaired by a shop such as Century Instrument so you will have the the original equipment. I believe they can also set it up with the hours you want such as Total TIme or SMOH time. I have been satisfied with their work. It looks like they will charge $125 plus parts. ht...
