Re: So Cal Flabob (KRIR) Low and Slow Fly-In May 10-12

I used to use Flabob as the "final exam" for my students. If they could land on that runway (25+ years ago it was in pretty poor shape with grass encroaching on the centerline in several places) with a gusting Santa Ana wind, they could probably handle a crosswind just about anywhere. The ...

Re: Slooooooow 170b

Your post brought a smile to my face. I thought my 170 was the slowest around. It gets around 108 mph true…and the plane is even painted RED! My plan is to check rigging and maybe eventually remove the venturis. I’ve also tried meticulously cleaning and polishing the plane. Didn’t help at all with s...

So Cal Flabob (KRIR) Low and Slow Fly-In May 10-12

It's time for another Low and Slow Fly-In! This is one of my favorite annual fly-ins to attend. There are always at least a couple 170's that show up (mine included), so fly in with your 170 and join us for the fun! This is an entire weekend event and camping is encouraged. Drop in anytime! RSVP at:...

Re: C170B Pilot's seat VERY hard to slide fore-aft

The rollers on my seats are in good shape and roll freely but I still found there was some excess drag when moving fore and aft. I rubbed some paraffin wax (sparingly) along the sides and top of the seat rails (per the 100 Series Service Manual) where the seat guides ride along it. I can't say they ...

Re: SoCal 170 Lunch at Rosamond (L00) Saturday, January 27

Looks like the Santa Ana winds have made their appearance today. Let’s cancel the plan to meet in Rosamond and revisit it another time.

SoCal 170 Lunch at Rosamond (L00) Saturday, January 27

Rosamond Skypark has a nice restaurant called Guido’s that serves a wide variety of entrees but specializes in Italian fare. It’s worth checking out if you haven’t been there yet. Let’s meet up for lunch! If you would like vintage aircraft display credit, signoffs will be given at noon in the parkin...

Re: Polishing advice needed

Hard water spots are tough. Are you using a single buffing wheel or a Cyclo? I’ve had good results with stubborn water spots using F7 and a buffer with a wool pad. I don’t try to dig into it but instead make multiple passes around the general area until the stains disappear. I had a particularly stu...

Thank you to everyone that planned to attend the N/S Fly-In. Many of you backed up my decision to cancel with weather reports from the local area and I truly appreciated it. I am already making plans for next year. It should be a fun one!

CA Sep 29-Oct 1 N/S Fly-In Columbia Airport (O22) CANCELLED

Well...it looks like the weather isn't going to cooperate after all. There is now a forecast for rain and low clouds through Saturday and into Sunday. Since many of us would be traveling a greater distance along routes with mountains, I am going to make an early decision and cancel the Columbia Fly-...

The North/South Fly-In is less than one week away! The long-term forecasts are showing good weather and comfortable temps. I'm planning on getting to the campground late Friday afternoon. Departing late Sunday morning. I hope to see many of you there!

Have you ever tried using a Preval Sprayer? I find it much more reliable than an airbrush for spraying paint that shouldn’t be thinned excessively.

Re: C-170A Airforms Baffle kit on a C145-2H?

My engine is C-145-2H and recently installed new Airforms front baffle pieces. Fit was pretty straightforward. Just had to do a little trimming to get around the armature. As a matter of fact, both front pieces needed some trimming to get a perfect fit (there is bolt that protrudes on the right side...
