Jacking the tail

Hello, I've reviewed previous posts on the subject. Can anyone advise on whether it's better/stronger/safer to jack the tail (to a level position) under the tail spring attach bolt area or the bulkhead about 18" forward of that. I have a T3 tailwheel so I have a more room all the way aft than i...

Re: Proper Tailwheel Steering Springs?

Don't waste your energy trying to make the steering work. Just put the pieces and parts together as they're supposed to be, and then get good at using the brakes for steering. I've tried new leaf springs, tight chains, loose chains, three pressure plate springs and five, different kinds of grease, ...

Re: My T3 tailwheel is installed

Evening, All the best off airport pilots I've ever known in any airframe, don't even set the tail down to the ground unless they are pretty much at a stop. -Except maybe a quick impact as the tail touches before the mains. That shouldn't be a big hit though, and then you just roll up onto the mains ...

Re: My T3 tailwheel is installed

Smooth in what way? Smooths out rough ground? Better than just the Bushwheel? I do a little rough-field flying, but I'm having a hard time seeing where I'd benefit from having one of these, nicely-engineered though it may be. Been off the forum for a while sorry. Definitely smooths out the rough gr...

Scotts 3200 3 springs vs 5

Good evening, Took the 3200 apart and noticed it had all 5 springs installed. Additionally, the 3 posts were snapped loose from the (pressure plate?). I've looked at previous posts which indicate only 3 springs should be used on a 170(B). Would using 5 springs make it harder to steer the tailwheel? ...

Re: My T3 tailwheel is installed

I can say it's all I'd hoped for. Very smooth. Steering seems a little better too, but I replaced my straight arm with a bent steering arm so I'm not able to accurately compare.

Re: My T3 tailwheel is installed

Good Evening. My T3 tailwheel assy is on finally. I got the field approval on Friday. I am A DAR but of course cannot do them on my own aircraft. It seems that the STC has been just around the corner since 2005 from the posts I've seen! Any chance you or someone else that has done this might share s...

Re: Fuel quantity: level flight vs 3 point ground stance

I have no idea about the tank capacity but the TCDS says the following about leveling. Specifications Pertinent to All Models… Datum Leveling Means Certification Basis: Front face of firewall Upper door sill Thanks for that answer! Maybe I didn't state the rest of my question clearly. On a stock 17...

Fuel quantity: level flight vs 3 point ground stance

I have 175 wings on my 170B and was wondering if anyone could tell me the approximate quantity difference seen on the gauge between level flight and sitting on the ground in a 3 point stance. Tanks half full as a reference. I've got a couple sending units that need replacement so I don't trust any n...

Re: new tail wheel spring issues

Well I don't think it looks right. There is way to much caster. Looking at the thin red lines I drew on the picture at the base of the bracket assembly of the tailwheel should be flatter. Only slightly raised in the front over the rear. When the aircraft is loaded to 2200lbs it should actually be f...

CFI with 170B time in CT?

Hello,

Looking for a CFI to give some dual towards a TD and complex endorsement for my adult son, in the Danbury area. Instruction would be in my plane a C-170B (175 wings, 180 gear, 210HP, CSP) 170/180 experience necessary for insurance.

Please PM me.

Re: Cessna 170 selling prices (split topic)

This is kind of a meaningless post. For starters a 170A won't fetch as much as a B. Then there are the multitudes of STC's, that can raise the value of a plane rather quickly, not to mention paint, avionics, TT, on an on. Bottom line, it's with what someone will pay or what it would cost you to dupl...
