Re: Insurance
My broker called today and told my my policy was up for renewal in 8 days. Not much notice. New guy. 170B. 85k hull. 1 million liability. $2300, which is about the same as last year. I am an ATP with lots of tailwheel time. My son is the issue: PP, instrument, 300 TT with 110 in the 170 and 220 tw. ...

Re: Need recommendations for ADSB In
We have a Stratux in our 170B. Mounts on the side window and uses a charge brick for power. Works pretty good feeding the ipad. Also have a Bonanza with a GDL50R, which mounts behind the panel and is permanent. Wired to the airplane. Feeds my ipad and Aera 660 and GPS175. Automatic. Also works very ...

Re: Very informal study of 170 sales.
A good 170 cost between $35-$50k for years. There wasn’t enough demand to run prices up. Now the market has changed and demand is up. It will stay high because the 180 market has gone through the roof, and there aren’t enough planes to fill the demand. Most of us just aren’t going to pay over $200k ...

Re: Does anyone have an EI FP5L fuel computer?
You can do it pretty easily. Just enter the programming mode as if you would any time you filled up the tank. Instead of putting the full amount put the total that you have. It should not be any big deal.

Here is my son Masen, who is really the lucky user of this nice 170. Doesn’t he look happy? Damn kids are going to bankrupt me.

Sportsman STOL
I have been flying our new 170B this week. New overhaul on the C145, big tires, and the Sportsman STOL kit that I installed. I want to tell you that that kit really makes a heck of a difference. I am very impressed so far. I have also been flying a buddy’s 170A that also has a fresh engine. The diff...

Re: 51 170A Gear Repair
While you do have a serious problem right now, I don't think it is the end of the world, nor should you panic and give up. A COMPETENT sheet metal mechanic will be able to disassemble, replace some key parts and skins, and repair. I think your guy said 80-100 hours. That sounds about right I suppose...

Re: Ss brake lines
I am not sure what you are referring to. I removed the gear legs (180 legs) and took them and had them sandblasted completely. After which I inspected and saw no particular issues with anything about them. They were then primed with Epibond epoxy and topcoated with single state urethane. Compared to...

Re: Continental Mags: Are they junk?
I am replacing Slick 6465s. You can’t just do a 500 hr inspection, OH is required per SB1-86B. If I am going that far then I prefer Bendix. $3,530 buys the kit with harness and plugs. Slicks kit is $3,470. I guess I am just griping in general. Aviation is expensive.

Re: Continental Mags: Are they junk?
I am overhauling my C-145. As such, new/overhauled mags are required. The Bendix kit price just recently went up by $700, to $3,500. Surefly just told me that they are not expected to be approved anytime soon. Any ideas?

Ss brake lines
I am looking to replace the ratty aluminum lines that run down the gear legs with new stainless versions. Is there a supplier or will I have to fabricate my own?

Re: New cylinder rework
Therein lies the problem. It’s an unfortunate fact that the quality can be questionable, even when brand new. I would absolutely not use the Continental cylinders for this reason. My experience with Superior products has been better. $2100 to inspect what ought to be perfect new cylinders is ridicul...

New cylinder rework
I am doing a major OH on my O300 with new Superior cylinders. Considering sending them to PAP for balancing and valve prep before install. $350 each. Has anyone else done this and was it worth the money?
