Don't forget, Propane liquifies at -40F and you would need to warm the bottle to get gas out of it. Might want to include one of the gas fired stoves in your kit. I used to use a coleman catalitic heater in the cowling overnight, makes for a lot of frost on the inside of the windshield but the engin...

There is a bit of a short cut between Watson lake and Fort Nelson via Liard River, not bad going south but can be tricky going north if you take the wrong fork.

At the time I was last through there Rocky Mountain House was a airstrip with nobody around. But Canada has really developed in the last 25 years or so. Haines Junction was a dirt strip and a fork in the road, now it is a thriving town.

Back in the late 70s' I used to travel to the states in the fall. Either 78 or 79 left Fairbanks on the 23 of Dec and stayed between storms to Calgary, ( following the hiway to Grand Prarie then direct Calgary via Rocky Mountain House ) . Customs at Whitehorse and again at Kalispel Montana. Did get ...

My first 170 with 0360 had no change in weight and balance due to the conversion. A lighter engine, 4 banger, vs 6, and heaver prop made a net change of zero. Performance, not a lot of change light, but a world of change heavy loaded, makes a true 4 place out of it. Three point forward visability is...

Canadian Wx reports

Friend of mine just asked for my favorite Canadian Wx web sites. And since I haven't any, thought some of you people might have some that I could pass along. Yukon, BC, and Alberta would be most usefull for Alaskans. Thanks, Charlie

I took a vernier throttle control out and put in a standard throttle control. Because when I want to pull it to idle,I don't want to be pushing at the same time I'm pulling. Had a engine start at full power one time and might near pulled the panel apart pulling on the vernier control. My 2 cents.

Take a piece of box aircraft steel, split it length wise to get two U channels to match the one with the U bolt, drill holes to match the original, and put one on top and one on bottom with two 1/4" aircraft bolts, locknuts and washers.

Some years ago, I had the same problem and did have leaking along the top of the windshield; I solved the problem by installing a Attlee Dodge stainless seaplane V brace and a new one piece windshield.

Having learned to fly the 170 in a stock model ( 0300 ) with the light gear legs, working into and then out of marginal strips, learned a few things. When I am trimmed in level flight I don't tuch the trim until I'm ready to taxie on the next flight. 20 degrees will give you a good approach speed, o...

There are some shims between the axel and the gear leg. They are different thicknesses so you might need to change some. But first take the axle off and look at the shims ( you will probably have two or more ) and try different combinations ( swap top to bottom or fore and aft or rotate ) to see if ...

If your engine is a bit tired, and you have a problem with oil fouling the plugs, putting platinium plugs in the bottom holes will help a lot. Otherwise not worth the expense.

A sleeve machined to fit the axel and of the right lengh to create a shoulder for the inner bearing to butt up against. Don't forget to install it before putting the wheels on. Saw a 185 land and ruin a set of gear legs because he didn't realize he needed the sleeves for the bearing and just put on ...
