Re: 7649 Prop questions
I've got a 7649 prop on my ragwing and can tell you it does not have quite the performance of a seaplane prop. I have flown side by side with a friend who has one and mine is slightly faster and doesn't climb quite as well. Running hard I'm seeing around 110-115mph. Feels great pulled back to a cal...

Re: 7649 Prop questions
Good morning Bruce, Yes, it's a DM 8-bolt McCauley prop. Seller is saying that it has 350 SMOH and has all the paperwork with it. I have a 7652 prop installed on the airplane right now (prop currently on my airplane shows that it was re-pitched back in 1989 I believe). As far as performance numbers ...

7649 Prop questions
I stumbled up on a prop that I might be interested in. I am curious for those in the know how a 7649 prop would perform on a Ragwing 170? I know cruise speed would be around 100mph. What would the climb rate be? How much would a prop like this normally go for in good condition? Thanks in advance for...

Re: Skis on a Cessna 170
You didn't mention where you would be flying on skis but there are quite a few stock 170s in Alaska on skis. The best performing/lightest weight skis would be the straight ones without wheels/extra drag if you don't have to operate off of dry surfaces. Like previously mentioned, get lots of practic...

Re: Skis on a Cessna 170
Inquired to Wipaire May 2020. Hi Tim, I had to do a bit of digging on the skis as we don’t see many set up for 170s, but they are priced at $27,500. --Amy Amy Gesch Product and Piston Aircraft Sales Manager Wipaire, Inc. agesch@wipaire.com | http://www.wipaire.com Phone: 651.414.6839 Mobile: 952.23...

Re: Skis on a Cessna 170
Before buying a set of skis for your 170, or any airplane for that matter, I would certainly recommend getting some experience with ski flying. Lots of variables involved, starting with the snow conditions on the proposed runway area. Whereas your typical maintained wheel plane runway will be in mo...

Re: Skis on a Cessna 170
A set of very nice looking Federal AWB 2500s just popped up today on the Facebook "Bush and Float Plane Classifieds" group. Asking price for skis, axles, and pump is $9,800. I'm no expert but that seems in line with what I've seen in the past. I saw those pop up, one of the reasons why I ...

Skis on a Cessna 170
I know that there are a couple of threads on this subject and it seems to me that the Federal AWB 2500 Skis are thought to be the best option for the 170? I was curious what I should expect to pay for a nice pair of these skis? Does the 170 have enough power with a stock C145 engine installed with a...

Re: O-300 Camshaft replacement / Engine overhaul
[ The check valve mentioned (10630) is not the one used by Cessna in your 170. If you read all the review of that valve at AircraftSpruce you will see it is not FAA approved, not TSO, not used in any certificated airplane. (It is likely offered by Spruce for the experimental market.) Yes, I think I...

Re: O-300 Camshaft replacement / Engine overhaul
Thanks CounsellJ, I will give you a call this evening. I am also looking for the hard to find check valve for the fuel system that the part number was changed. I believe it is part number S4176-1. Any ideas where I can locate this check valve? Josh Check out this post: https://forum.cessna170.org/f...

Re: O-300 Camshaft replacement / Engine overhaul
You DO NOT want to put used followers on a new/reground cam. Followers must be new or reground. The follower is was rides on the cam lobe. It contains a hydraulic unit which should also be certified. The follower and a hydraulic unit make up a lifter. Hello Bruce, I was planning on getting either a...

Re: O-300 Camshaft replacement / Engine overhaul
Thanks for the recommendation CounsellJ! I bought the only reconditioned camshaft that Aircraft Specialties had. The lifters are 164 dollars each. Is it a must to replace all the lifters when you replace the camshaft? I figured it would be a good idea but I didn't buy them yet.

O-300 Camshaft replacement / Engine overhaul
So.... During the pre buy on my airplane, we found some corrosion on the camshaft. I am looking for advice as far as where to look to find a camshaft to purchase as well as lifters. I'm assuming that I will have to do a total rebuild on this engine. Also looking for advice on engine shops that are t...

Re: 4th tank in a 1948 Ragwing
I have the fourth tank in my 48. The plumbing flange needs to be moved inboard on the lower right of the outboard 4th tank and the inboard tank needs an access flange welded outboard on the lower left. You'll then just connect with a rubber fuel hose and clamps. Take a hole saw and drill the rib in...
