Use fuel lube, it will slide right on. Your local FBO will have some.

Skis do put alot of additional stress on that gear bolt. It is a common failure point with the twisting action that gets put on it while on skis. For the type of flying I do, which is a lot of off airport on rough unimproved strips and then ski flying the rest of the year, its a must. It is cheap in...

Every time I have done this the feds want to send their inspector for an extemely thorough conformity inspection. They typically nit pick the plane apart and make you do all kinds of unnessecary stuff but in the end I have always been successfull in getting it. It is usually a frustrating time consu...

I thought I would throw my number in here too. I finally got mine weighed. My plane was a heavy plane before the engine conversion because of some of the mods I have done (180 gear, stol kit, ext baggage, 31" Bushwheels, double puck brakes, PPonk, ect...) The new empty weight with oil and unusea...

I have a V brace in mine and that works great for hanging the head set on. I grew up flying cubs though, so it just seems natural to hang them there. It is kind of an expensive head set hanger but there are big structural benifits to it too.

We did get some. We stayed the night in a cabin there though so the Ptarmigan became dinner and never made it to the plane. :)

This load wasn't external but it was a fun internal load. Its a Skidoo tundra snowmobile. http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb290/akav8n/100_0951.jpg We almost gave up a few times. http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb290/akav8n/100_0953.jpg Snug fit http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb290/akav8n/...

I don't think Penn Yann is out of line at all. For once George I am with you on this one. When an overhaul quote is given it is usually spelled out that it is based on certain parts in the motor being serivcable. When they are told to OH a motor they are going to do it the fastest way possible. Sinc...

That sounds great Robbie. That would be fun. Does your 180 have a stock motor?

I am not sure what it works out to in knots but it cruises at 147mph with 31" Bushwheels on and a Bushwheel tail wheel. At that power setting I am burning about 12 gph. If I throttle back to about 130-135 mph I burn 9.7 gph. At 115 mph I burn maybe 8 gph. I haven't tried it with small tires but...

Personally I would run from a wood spared Champ. The AD is written in such a way that it is almost impossible for it to pass. If I remember right when that AD first came out the manufacturer stated that in order to properly inspect a set of wings per that AD would take something like 22 hours of lab...

I can't speak for the fixed pitch because I have the constant speed prop. But with the constant speed I didn't notice much difference in my CG and my cruise is faster than a C-180. I am not sure how readily available used fixed pitch props are for that but if you have to buy the prop new, it was onl...

F. Atlee Dodge *877-332-8533* has sea plane steps and handles. I have put several sets on myself. Its not real difficult. I can't imagine not having them. Most planes around here have them even if they don't have a float kit. Shawn

I think in some cases the IO-360 has gotten a bad rap because the TIO-360 had some reliability issues. Some people are of the opinion those reliability issues must apply to the IO-360 as well. While I only have about 40 hours on mine, so far so good. I have talked to many people who have lots of hou...
