aileron gap seal tape - source

My 170B has the Horton STC which includes the aileron gap seal. For some reason (we believe during a repaint), the gap seals are missing which is causing my annual to fail since aileron gap seals are part of the STC. The Horton Stol business has been sold and we have been waiting for a few weeks to ...

Re: Original W&B and equipment listed - WHY?

Unfortunately, the original W&B and equipment list is not kept by the FAA. We have the CD and it is void of the original W&B. Appreciate the copy of yours. FSDO says not required but when I asked for confirmation in writing, they balked because technically, I live in a different FSDO from wh...

Original W&B and equipment listed - WHY?

Near the end of a tortuous 7 month annual for a 170B I purchased in April and my IA has asked me to obtain the original equipment list and W&B for my 70 year old 170B. Since there are at least two W&B and equipment lists in my records that were developed since 1952, the original documents se...

Re: Wrong quick drain installed in tank

Thank you! Thank you! You have saved me from a near "maintenance catastrophe". We had replaced the quick drain in the right tank because it was leaking. The threads were NPT. Consequently, when we removed the quick drain from the left tank, my IA noticed that it had straight threads (7/16 ...

Wrong quick drain installed in tank

Advice needed! Into month 7 of my first annual of a '52 170B. Searched forums and have not found any discussions re what to do when you discover that the quick drain valve installed in your wing tank has standard threads vs pipe threads. We removed the quick drain in order to flush the tanks because...

Re: Door handle pic please

Wow!!! That was interesting. My 170B, serial 20826 and is a 1952. And to think, I actually have a 1946 Chevy pickup in my barn, just waiting to be restored. I think I will look at the handles in the morning. Thank again. MK

Door handle pic please

My IA wants to see a pic of the original internal door handle (170B) If anyone has an original on their plane and can post a pic, I would appreciate it. Mine is missing the internal and external plates which protect the fabric but for some reason, he wants to see what the original looks like.

Re: window hinge loose

Interesting. Will look at it from that perspective and post pic tonight as well. Thanks for the quick reply. This "annual" has been going on since late April, primarily since many previous "fixes" were done poorly as well as many areas left unattended. For instance, the TW was so...

window hinge loose

Now we are stumped. The window hinge was loose my 170B, having been held into the door frame previously with pop rivets The holes are fairly large and misshaped. They measure abou.185 I would like any advice as to how others would fix this so that the hinge would remain in without further damage to ...

Dummy me! Now, why didn't I think of that. Thanks much. I guess frustration caused me to gasp for help like a drowning rat. Thanks again. MK

Carb heat and mixture cable stabilization

Does anyone have a pic to demonstrate how to properly stabilize the carb heat and mixture cables prior to the carb? On my bird, there is/was a small aluminum channel, about 4 inches long by inch wide with 1/8 th inch sides. We removed it about 4 months ago and were not bright enough to take pics alt...

Got it! Top 2 holes were for an ashtray. Bottom 3 holes were for an armrest. End of story.

Front seat grab handles, original?

I understand that 170B's had grab handles mounted on the front door posts. If anyone has pictures of their handles, I would appreciate pic posting. Looking for what might be original and what others might have as acceptable replacements. Thanks
