Re: Breather on O300D

It sounds like the tube end is now perfectly placed to form a vacuum in it sucking oil from the breaker. From your description it sounds like the tube was farther into the slip stream and a vacuum was not created. I would normally not have the end of the tube below the cowl or just at the cowl level...

Re: Original Paint schemes

Our documentation shows a few, shall I say variances from factory delivery. The red '48 with the registration numbers on the side is one as George pointed out, that is not where the registration numbers where originally found on any model of 170. But otherwise the red '48 we picture is otherwise rig...

Re: Original Paint schemes

We only have a few actual Cessna paint drawings. We are at the mercy of folks looking through their logs and finding these treasures and sending us a copy.

Re: Help! "New" 170 with non-standard fuel caps

Headline 2007: PARKER HANNIFIN ACQUIRES AEROSPACE EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER SHAW AERO DEVICES, INC. You probably knew that. I did a quick search of Parker for #416-50 and didn't get any hits. Looking at the pictures it is difficult to see the filler neck. Why do you believe it does not match the cap? T...

Re: 75th Reunion Celebration group parking at Airventure 202

Do any of you know if it is possible to fly into Oshkosh without ADSB out? I've read the NOTAM, but did not see mention of it. I haven't flown in there since before the 2020 mandate. Thanks in advance! I agree with Karl. OSH is NOT in Class A, B, and C airspace; Class E airspace at or above 10,000 ...

Re: 75th Reunion Celebration group parking at Airventure 202

I just saw on Facebook that there are shirts you can order and a dinner on Sunday night. Is this being put on by TIC170A? Anyone have a picture of the shirts? Doug, looking at the email it is from Association Headquarters using Constant Contact which the Association uses and is identified as being ...

Re: Insight on panel

My incompetence is holding me back from posting pictures. I will figure it. But in the meantime: The "light conductor" is unfortunately missing The factory horn has a "light conductor" in the middle of it. The lens is so dark and perhaps the bulb burned out, that most people don...

Re: replacing seat covers in a 49 A

I know this was a old message but I would like to find period correct upholstery also. Does anyone have any pics or contacts for a 1949 - A? It is very hard to find documented original interiors to take photos of. I do have lots of pictures of a unmolested 400 hr '48 here with good shots of the fro...

Re: Insight on panel

Remember we are talking about an A model here and the stall warning system is not required by TCDS for any 170 other than the B model like yours Gary. I'd bet most A models don't have a stall warning system though I have seen them on some including mine. It is on the original Cessna bill of sale an...

Re: Insight on panel

The dials on the instruments are yellow, or dirty white. I sure hope thats not original color. Were they white? Assuming so, wheres a good shop to get them rebuilt or at least the dials refreshed? Keystone Instruments, in Lock Haven PA can overhaul/clean the mechanics and refurbish the dials and fa...

Re: Surprising Discovery - Failed Piston Ring/Land

George, it's not a "fudge factor", it is math. I'm sure you know, but others may not, that the explanation and formula can be found in the very first pages of TCM M-O in the torque specifications page as well as the Lycoming manual not to mention 43.13. I have that formula in a spread shee...

Re: Insight on panel

Bruce, as a former C-170A owner, has forgotten more than most of us will ever known about this model. For example, in this conversation about the glareshield color he wrote, Gary, I retract my "painted black" statement. I'd really on what I said when I was younger and had more brain cells...

Re: Insight on panel

While I'm pretty good at figuring out such things, when asking about your plane the first thing you should mention is the model year and more specifically, the serial number. After searching records to find yours is a '49 A model, serial 18963, I did finally see you did identify it as a '49 in the p...

Re: Surprising Discovery - Failed Piston Ring/Land

Thanks for that suggestion…. but that is what occurred quite naturally…as we held the opposite nut while loosening the #3 cyl nut….which turned the thru-bolt and naturally loosened the opposite nut on #2 cyl. The problem was that “someone” had apparently attempted to seal a leak at the #3 cyl base-...
