Maybe cause I was only logged in once which means of course that I was not really logged in since that now requires logging in twice 8)
Got to love computers.

cessna did make a winterization kit as you describe. Reason I don't cover the inboard half is that that would also block the air intake for the heater. I don't want to do anything to hurt the already dismal output of the heater.

The amount of tape required will depend on outside air temperature. I'm in Pa where it is usually between 20 and 30F in the winter. I have the early cowl with the horizontal ribs. Below about 40f I cover the oil pan opening only. About 30f I cover the top slot on each side of the cowl with duct tap....

Where they marked from the factory? If so, exactly what are marks supposed to be for oil pressure and temperature. How would you mark the oil temperature since max temp is dependent on type of oil used?

My oil pressure and temperature are not marked. What should the markings be? Haven't found this in the TCDS or the flight manual.

This can be done rather easily with some helper guides made out of saftey wire. First you need a small light that you can put through a spark plug hole. I took a mini mag light bulb and soldered wires to it and attached this to a battery pack. This works great for a lot of things. Then take some saf...

Hey John

There is a few of us up here north of Philadelphia that fly 2 170s every weekend somewhere. Getting down your way is a little far but maybe we can meet at Kentmore MD or York Pa, when it gets a bit wormer. Both would be about an hour for us.

Just finished the installation of a Garmin 155 (TSO) with a Collins 351D indicator and a AI 155 annunciator panel with the intent to get it IFR certified. Then my avionics guy tells me the local FSDO will not approve the installation cause the annunciator panel is not TSOd. To say I'm disappointed w...

I've heard others talk about a tape for sealing ailerons. Didn't know someone had a STC for a 170. Tell me more about it. What does just the seal tape cost? Can it be installed without the flap seal?

I have no experience with gap seals on a Cessna and there are a lot of things to consider with the fowler flaps but I can tell you that on my Cherokee the gap seals on the aileron and flaps made a significant difference in both lower stall speed, handling, and faster cruise of about 5mph. For the mo...

Joe, I appreciate your mentioning the article. I have not read it. I think what BL was trying to say was better said by George. It is to bad we can't trust the FAA to put out accurate information. I haven't heard or meet an FAA guy yet that seems to know much about small GA aircraft. I'm sure there ...
