Re: Cessna 170A Restoration w/TLGW Cont IO-360 STC
The 180/185 gear adds 11-14 lbs of weight. I wouldn’t like that…but most folks who go to the IO-360 are so impressed by the horsepower/performance increase …I think they disregard/forget about that. But remember… the Gross Weight is not allowed to be increased…so the modifications Really Eat into t...

Re: Cessna 170A Restoration w/TLGW Cont IO-360 STC
One other item to consider while you have it in process is a new windshield. Not a huge task, but I'm sure it would be easier depending on your state of disassembly. I'm also a big fan of the door stewards I added. Super easy and great for a tail dragger. I left the door catch at the top of the doo...

Re: Cessna 170A Restoration w/TLGW Cont IO-360 STC
Interesting you're thinking of removing the 185 legs for "Lady Legs". Wondering why? I'm neutral on the use of 185 or even 180 legs, I'm just curious why you'd go through the trouble to replace them. Also why the inspection panel on the rear of the fuselage near the vertical stab? I haven...

Cessna 170A Restoration w/TLGW Cont IO-360 STC
A few months back, I purchased a Cessna 170 project from Georgia and brought it back here to Ft Worth, TX. I’m finishing installing Continental IO-360 STC on a 1964 172 so I decided to contact Tom Anderson at The Landing Gear Works about doing another on this plane. We have a lot of lessons learned ...

Re: Wanted: Lens/Cap for Safe Flight Warning Horn unit
Thanks - that’s excellent!
I did however find one at Air Salvage of Dallas shortly after posting. Hopefully, this thread will help someone else in the future.

Re: Cabin Heat Conversion
Yes, the boot cowl inlet.
It seems that since it’s not a common discussion to upgrade to the later system with the cowl inlet that the 170B heat/air system does the trick.

Re: Cabin Heat Conversion
Since I’m working on a 1964 172, I was wondering if that air system had been installed successfully since it allows for both hot and outside air to be mixed in the cabin. If you look at the IPC for the 1963-1974 Skyhawk, figure 138, item 41, the external air vent on the passenger/copilot side of the...

Re: Cabin Heat Conversion
Reviving an older thread due to the content here…
Has anyone successfully installed a later 172-style fresh air vent on the right/copilot side of the fuselage as part of a heater upgrade?

Wanted: Lens/Cap for Safe Flight Warning Horn unit
I know this is an old thread but does anyone have a lead on the cap and lens for one of the old Safe Flight units?

Re: Corrosion on Crankshaft
Aircraft Specialties has approval to rework the oil seal area of some crankshafts. I’d contact them first to ask the question. Additionally, you could call AEA in Dallas, Western Skyways, and Airworx.
