Re: Stuck Door Latch
Just got my latch put back in using the double spring method that Joe talked about and it works well, however it's doing what flyboy's original question was about...sticking occasionally (only when the exterior door latch is used). Roebury is correct that it gets over center and sticks, but it's eas...

Re: Stuck Door Latch
Hello Flyboy, This just goes to show that we all have the same problems with these fine airplane some time or another. Do a search on Door latch springs and you will see some good responses/solutions to your dilemma. I started that post back in 2012 and was just searching it again tonight, as my oth...

Re: Prop Spinner on early 170B
Great idea George, that will happen in the next couple of days. My eyes will appreciate that preventative maintenance too!
Thanks,
Bill

Re: Prop Spinner on early 170B
I wanted to follow-up on my wobbly spinner. We were going to try several things mentioned here, but we first turned it 180-degrees and reattached it using the tightning the lug nut theory and it came out as true as can be. :D It's funny, but now when flying, my eyes don't even see the spinner unless...

Re: extended baggage?
Richard,
A photo would be great and I talked to Mike yesterday and he said that his doesn't come with the back panel. Boy, sounds like January is a bit early to be heading back north.
Thanks Again...

Re: extended baggage?
Back to the actual extended baggage design of Mike Petrie's. Richard, the photo you posted in '09 doesn't show the back of the baggage compartment. Do you have a photo showing it. I sure like the tie down attachments and the short sides on Mike's kit as I have an ELT mounted back there also.

Re: Prop Spinner on early 170B
Thanks for the good info fellows, I will try those techniques and maybe my vision will self correct itself also, as little wobble as it is, it sure draws your eyes to it when your cruising along.
Thanks again...
Thanks again...

Re: Prop Spinner on early 170B
This maybe a bit off topic, but in the close category, after a few bloody knuckles you'll learn to get those pesky screws out with a modified ratchet with a ground down phillips head and just a moderate amount of talking about the engineers that designed it that way. But my question is concerning th...

Re: Left Door Latch Removal
Howdy Joe, nice set up on your door latch. Always something to do on our birds. New owners at Minam and the new owners just begun major renovation about 10-days ago. Three inches of old crunchy snow that makes landing interesting. RAF, IAA, & OPA and others are doing a voluntary airlift for the ...

Re: Left Door Latch Removal
I wasn't aware of this option, but I sure like the looks of them in your photos. Where does a guy go to get more info on them?

Re: Left Door Latch Removal
Thanks Bruce, and I've found they don't give away those return springs either. But, this all gives a guy something to do.

Re: Fuel gauge gaskets 1954
What do you hope to accomplish by mixing mogas with avgas?? Do you prefer your mogas ruined by the addition of the lead in avgas?? Or is it that you like to ruin avgas, gascolators, gaskets and carburetors by adding mogas with ethanol?? :? Saving a few $$. But I hear you say (and others) that I sho...

Re: Fuel gauge gaskets 1954
I've thought of that too, and it would cause the cost of operation to go down even further! And it seems to run better on the mogas. What's interesting is that at the same I started running mogas, I put a set of 29" Bushwheels and if I lost any airspeed, it was not noticable! You got it, the mo...

Left Door Latch Removal
Trying to replace the Door Latch return spring (PN# 0511119) in the left door. It seems that the two pop rivots at the latch end have to be removed to start the process. But, before I take it out the way it seems to have to come out, I wanted to ask you all, what is the proper way to get the latch o...
