Wood models of 170

Friends, My family bought me a beautiful wood model of a Cessna 170 that was customized to look like mine--unfortunately, the company missed a few paint details. It was sent back for a correction, which never happened after 8 months. They finally cancelled the order in frustration. Have any of you o...

'48 fuel cap gasket

Has anyone found a source, or even material to make a gasket for the fuel cap on a '48 ragwing? I've tried several things, but they didn't seal very well or reacted to the fuel and curled.

My tach first showed a problem by wavering a couple hundred rpm. Shortly after that it started jumping all around and making a horrible noise, kinda like a power tool was vibrating against the panel. Then it acted normally for a couple minutes before it did it again, and then it went to zero. I repl...

Any ideas where to get the Cessna logo? I haven't seen a small one in any of the supply catalogs.

Steve--sounds like a great trip. 20 years ago I was stationed on a submarine in the Groton, Ct. area and did some great flying in the area. I particularly liked flying to the islands (Block, Martha's Vineyard, etc.). South of Groton is Fischer's Island and the strip is right next to the beach--make ...

I can vouch for the importance of inspecting the exhaust in pre-buy. About 1 1/2 years after purchase I ended up replacing the entire exhaust system. I put on the smaller diameter Hanlon Wilson. No problems since at all. Off the top of my head I think the exhaust system cost around $1800 plus the la...

A part 135 company I'm familiar with uses a clear tape on some of their C-210 leading edges (those not equipped with icing equipment)--I guess to keep the abrasion down primarily on fiberglass fairings, etc. I'll ask next week what they use and how it is approved--I'm sure the FEDs have given their ...

I had looked into Oregon Aero to rebuild my seats--as I recall from a couple years ago, it would run around $1000.00 apiece. That's a little too much support for me.

Maybe this type of photo shoot could be an event at the annual convention. It would certainly encourage "participation". On the other hand, maybe it wouldn't be such a good idea......

When I bought my 170 3 years ago it had been flying with Aeroshell 15W50. After advice from this group, I switched over to straight weight Aeroshell, 40 in the winter and 50 in the summer. My engine runs hot, and I've taken to 50 year round, with good heating prior to starting during the cold months...

Koop--I hope this all works out OK for you, but I know you're frustrated and rightfully so. I suspect nearly everyone who buys an older plane today discovers things that weren't found on the pre-buy that really should have been fixed. I budgeted a couple thousand for that possibility, and if I didn'...

Eric--I did see the training wheel version of the Luscombe 11 in Oklahoma City one day--I'm sure it was their prototype. It looked kinda funny.

Gar,
That is how my latches are all modified, except a hole was drilled through the end of the screw so I could insert a pin rather than screwing a nut on the end.

Steve, I changed the pitch on my ragwing to a 53 from a 49. I fly by myself most of the time (lightly loaded) and a good mix of cross country and just bumming around. The acceleration and climb loss was noticeable but not debilitating--I still fly comfortably off all the grass fields I typically use...
