Re: HIGH,HIGH OIL TEMP!!
I suspect the 3 inch lip was actually added to the 1948 after production started maybe due to cooling issues. My 48 S/N 18608 has the 3 inch lip. However my project S/N 18041 has a short approx 3/4 inch lip. It appears to be original and no damage recorded that would make me think it was changed. I...

Re: Cabin door hinge pins
MS20253-P2-7200 stainless steel hinge pin, cut and bent approximately as shown, seems to work pretty well for me. They are easily removable, yet very secure.

Not convinced that this is any more than a cosmetic issue. Most likely just a tolerance stackup.

Re: '52 prior cylinder baffle parts made
Thanks, Bruce. Mine will take a little more metal removal than that. But, it is probably because they are owner produced parts that were made to fit pretty tightly against Continental covers. I ended up deciding to put the Continental rocker covers on for now. When I make the new set of baffle parts...

Re: '52 prior cylinder baffle parts made
Hey, Bruce, a question for you. I am just finishing up an engine overhaul, and haven't got around to making new baffle pieces that attach to the upper three rocker cover screws. So, for now I am using the old ones. But imagine my surprise when they won't fit onto the new rocker covers that came with...

Re: Early inner pressure cowl measure needed.
Mine is not double layer, only the v-ribbed sheet. Mine is an owner-produced part, copied from what I thought was original (but who can ever be sure). My aircraft is a pretty early one (S/N 18073). I will be back at the hangar tomorrow, and can measure thickness of the both the current and the old o...

Re: Early inner pressure cowl measure needed.
Full disclosure: The photo is of an owner-produced part that I made in 2004. I also measured the broken original (which I believe to be an original part), and it measures the same.

I can get that measurement for you, but probably not until Thursday.

And, when you start riveting the bracket on, the riveting will cause intergranular corrosion hiding in the stringer reinforcement angles to expand and become obvious...
Yes, it happened to me..., resulting in more fun bucking rivets inside the tailcone. But better to find it and fix it.

Re: Installed 180 Landing Gear
Wedges are on the top of the gear leg. They need to clamp the gear leg tightly against the bottom of the opening thru the bracket. These wedges are not for setting alignment.

Re: '52 prior cylinder baffle parts made
Jeez, I'm getting ready to make some of those (and some other baffle parts), as I am also in the midst of an overhaul.
But I don't have a CNC router....
Very nice!
