Re: Continental O300C oil pan
not my area of expertise, but this seems to be an easy deal for someone with a CNC machining setup.

Re: Engine screens
the oil screens are located on the bottom rear of the engine accessory housing. LH smaller one is a coarse screen, that is the inlet screen. RH larger one is a finer screen, that is your main "oil filter" screen. No need to replace them unless something clogged one causing it to collapse, ...

Re: ACK E-04 installation in C-170B
minor unless you need to do structural mods for mounting, then you have to get that approved by the usual means. I put one of these ELT's in my 172 this fall to replace my old Dorne and Margolin unit, so I had a suitable mounting tray already. the ACK mounting method uses a metal clip that is kind o...

Re: FAA "Dues"
Not just the FAA that charges us for the cost of regulation. Our company works with the Bureau of Reclamation and the USFS all the time and to get permits etc from them we are billed for the staff time that they put into issuing the permits, any notifications, hearings, etc, "cost recovery"...

Re: How long have you owned your 170?
good point George! no, I managed to talk her into that in '84, even after I was her instructor. I must have been a really good one! or more likely she saw other positive attributes, although for the life of me I can't figure out what they are....

Re: How long have you owned your 170?
OK, I know I'm an interloper, what with the 172 and all. But, I can chime in that this airplane has been in my wife's family since about 1971, other than a bit in the late '70's when they traded it to an implement dealer for a combine. They bought it back within a couple years. I taught my (future) ...

we're in the same boat as you Willie but with a little more wind yet. not that it matters once it gets cold enough. I remember the old wind chill index which would say it was even colder, I think they changed it so we wouldn't scare away the tourists. you know what they say, 30 below keeps out the r...

yeah Frank, any correct size quick drain valve (curtis, etc) will work there. I don't know the size offhand though, mine hasn't leaked yet.

Re: Micro VGs
we put VG's on all of our C340's years ago when they first came out. The big draw for us was that particular installation allows you to increase the gross takeoff weight by 300 lbs (makes the vertical tail think it's bigger for SE control certification). But I did do a full set of stalls etc before ...

Re: More Winter baffle questions...
David, when I made up my winter fronts I cut the RH one up from the bottom where it was in front of my heater inlet and bent the flap back about 45 degrees-ish, so it's basically a ramp directing airflow down into the heater duct. sorry I don't have any pictures or measurements handy, but it gives y...

Re: Parachute Flares
That pamphlet is great! I remember working on a C35 Bonanza in A&P school, it had had a nosegear collapse and we rebuilt it. We found that it had 3 flares still loaded in the tubes (this was about 1984) so we VERY CAREFULLY removed them and gave them to the local Air National Guard guys for disp...

Re: L.E.D. Navigation/Strobes/Interior Lights
an outfit is selling new flashy-thingie (technical term) LED nav lites through Spruce. I haven't looked at the specs enough to see if the flashes are brighter than a standard nav bulb or not, I suspect not although they call then nav-strobes. http://www.navstrobelighting.com/products/NavStrobe-Sexta...
