Re: conversion to O360 with Del Air
Thanks to everyone for the thoughts - I have come to a decision to leave the plane with the original (rebuilt once again) 145H engine and not upgrade. I wish in 2004 that I had done the conversion - there was so much else that ultimately had to be repaired when I got through it (the engine mount, ex...

conversion to O360 with Del Air
I was blowing oil through the blowby - and we found one cylinder suddenly had gone from 70lbs to 10lbs. I commute in my 170A so time to repair was a thought - I bought new cylinders (even though my Milleniums only had 850 hrs on them) When the A&P took off the first cylinder he found pitting in ...

Re: window latches
I saw that another C170A owner had done something simple with their window. He had drilled a small vertical hole thru the sill into the door. Then he dropped a stainless steel pin with a handle on it into the hole. This "locks"the window in place and the funky old latch is not really stres...

battery box and dripping fuel
I went out o the plane today because on my last flight, before starting the aircraft and after turning on the fuel selector, I noticed fuel vigorously dripping from the carburetor. This is the second time I have seen this - A tap with a stick of wood on the carb body stopped this. (Anyone else seen ...

Need recommendations on Paint Shops
I am now 5 months into my 3 hour annual... Basically, I bought I lemon and was stupid enough to fall in love with her. I am reaching the point of having just about as much new metal on my '51 C170A as I have old metal. (Can't say original metal, cause it looks like my old bird has had a rough life a...

Engine Vacuum
Gary
In a club I belong to the guys were going to install a vacuum backup off the manifold.
I thought about that option for starting the spinning... I assume it is legal to do. I wondered what the issues might be.
Thanks for the idea. - gg

Vacuum
Has anyone run across a cost effective source of vacuum for C145-2 170's ?? I don't want to remove my old venturi, but I do want to spin up the DG and AH before I start rolling... I was hoping that there might be simplpe electric vacuum pump available. Also, I run consistently with the vacuum guage ...

I have the engine service manual and two parts catalogues for my C170A.
Does anyone know where I can find a service manual for the aircraft?

Installed new GPS comm
:D I have just completed upgrading my C170A to IFR. I ended up installing a Garmin 300XL at the top of th panel above the Yoke. I selected the Garmin because I was familiar with their portables (but the portables have better software designs than the IFR certified units.) The alternative for me was ...

2 inch Radio Above T Yoke on 170A
Does anyone know if a two inch high GPS/Comm will fit at the top of the panel just right of center. The space looks tight to me and was wondering if anyone has done this successfully. My current panel has the Tach and 2-1/4 EGT in this space right now. My radios are down below the co-pilot and are h...
