Re: How big of a dent is too big??

Hey Bruce! I actually stumbled onto this post but I think you might just have cleared up a mystery that’s been bugging me for years. My ‘55 has those exact same cable outlet fairings but I never knew why they were there. Nothing really in the logbooks that would explain it. I’ve always blamed them o...

Cotter pin in oil pan

Oops! How did THAT get in there? Admittedly, I usually approach cleaning and inspecting the sump screen as more or less a perfunctory chore, but I do it anyway. After all, what are the odds that anything is realistically going to get stuck in there in the first place? I know, I know, we’ve all heard...

Re: Electrical Glitch

OK, just for clarification voltage drop through/across the master relay is measured at the “cranking” terminal (or whatever it’s called) between the post itself and a good ground whilst the starter is engaged? Will a resistance check tell you anything?

Re: Electrical Glitch

Thanks for the thoughtful suggestions! I failed to mention the battery is a new Concorde and it’s actually the first thing I suspected. I do keep all my connections clean and tight but everything’s worth double checking. Interestingly, Miles suggested checking the starter contacter button and that’s...

Electrical Glitch

Here’s a brain teaser for the electricity nerds who enjoy dissecting anomaly’s: This scenario seems to be a ‘one-off’, never seen it before, hasn’t happened again. Airplane is a ‘55, hangared, mostly stock with original wiring, rebuilt 35 amp generator, everything in good condition. The Delco voltag...

Re: Augmentation System Boeing 737 MAX 8 WHY?

Here’s a quick story from the line, roughly ties in with the topic and some may find it interesting. A little background; I’m currently a 787 Captain with United, type’d in most of the Boeings, and I’ve been at this for about 32 years so I’ve seen my share of goofy stuff. And yes, retirement is just...

Re: 44C Annual issues - need advice

Arash..... Two items immediately come to mind. First, please be careful when reassembling your master cylinders...those little piston return springs that encircle the plunger shaft? Make absolutely certain they are installed correctly. If not (upside down), your brakes will function properly at firs...

Re: Mode C issue

And then there's this.....my baro window, set to the field AWOS, never produced the correct indication on the needles (and vice-versa, obviously); they mismatched by a couple hundred feet. I finally got tired of it so I undid the little screw, pulled and pushed and jiggled the knob but couldn't get ...

Re: Generator replacement

Yes, that's the outfit I was thinking of.....thanks everyone. Just an FYI, as always, 'let the buyer beware' (or whatever the Latin translation is). The first generator I received had a front mounting plate that was so beat up and distorted from previous careless disassemblies (PLEASE don't use chis...

Generator replacement

OK, what's the name of the rebuild shop somewhere I think in Louisiana?
Ended up with 2 different defective overhauled generators from Falcon, can't take anymore chances with them.

Another generator question

In the process of "upgrading" the '55 to a 35A generator (note to alternator guys: please, no boos or hisses.....my airplane's just not sexy enough to be sporting anything that fancy). Somewhere on the forum, I've found reference to the addition of a blast tube but can't locate any 'offici...

OK, good suggestions. Did I mention they're 180 gear legs? I imagine the extra beefiness helps somewhat.
George? Anyone seen George? Probably on vacation.....

Plugging holes in the gear

Finally removed the chrome "steps" that someone had previously installed on the main gear legs. I've never been a fan of drilling holes in spring gear legs, but nobody else seems to think it's a big deal. Now that the steps are gone the visible bolt holes are quite unattractive, to say the...

Re: Backing plates for wheel pants

I bought a brand new pair straight from Cessna a few years back. Hopefully I didn't get the last ones. They're not cheap ( is anything from Cessna?) and if I recall correctly, one side was a few dollars more expensive than the other. Thought that was wierd....
