Re: CiES Digital Fuel Senders
While the product is a great item , the time for calibration and fittment of 20 hours per wing etc . ???? Does that include lunch breaks ? I have just finished helping a friend fit them to a Cessna 177rg and calibration was just over 2 hours totally . We didn’t have to defuel the tanks due to him fl...

Re: brake hoses
When I removed the brake hoses and end fittings, and thinking I'm could reuse the fittings , the outer fitting was found to be heavily corroded internally . The inner fitting was screwed out with no issues but the other fitting destroyed the old hoses as I was attempting to unscrew it . A tip was gi...

brake hoses
It’s 100 hrly time again . Checking on brake pads/parts etc and found my brake hoses very stiff to the point one snapped when I tried to bend it. The hoses are just over 4 years old . We had floods not long ago and the aircraft wheels went under for about 4 days . Replaced a heap of wheel/brake part...

Re: 2024 Cessna 170 Convention, Elizabethtown, Kentucky
Due to us guys coming from the other side of the earth our seasons are very different. It would be appreciated if the hosts of future conventions could indicate what weather to expect when we arrive at that time of year. Weather can be a changing environment at convention sites due to altitude and m...

Re: check out u tube
The Cessna 206 is an incredible aircraft but the newer 206 with the Lycoming engine is even better. Plus the turbo version will blow your socks off. the turbo can increase operating costs but it’s performance is unbelievable . What Cessna says it can do ,it does it and some . i know of a couple of o...

Re: Higher oil temps with Phillips XC20W50 ?
Had a similar issue ,but was using Exxon 100w and switched over Phillips multi grade. I couldn’t change the direction of the blast tube and purchased a finned heat sink that attaches to the spin on filter. This clamped around the filter. I purchased it off Spruce. I was too minds about changing over...

Re: ISO Gear Fillet Plates
Ryan, I made mine out of plastic book binders. [ring pull type. ] Why I used -plastic ? it’s slightly flexible and doesn’t mark the gear legs or the fuselarge. Washed the plastic down in spray gun cleaner and used a rattle can for painting .The plastic was sanded down for the sharp edges and every e...

Re: Seeking a willing owner and airplane of 170 Near Tampa Fl
Firstly my knowledge of props is very limited . What I know would fit on the sharp end of a needle. I am still learning. But with the Stoots STC the engine is putting out 195HP. So we are needing that extra HP to turn the prop. to 2700 rpm. The tip drag on a prop 83 ins would be a lot more than a pr...

Re: Seeking a willing owner and airplane of 170 Near Tampa Fl
? What are the benefits of having a prop that size of 82 in over the standard size prop. The engine must still spin to the required RPM for the power curve . Okay the pitch will have to be flatter but then drag comes into it especially with tips at the speed of sound . So how close is the tips of a ...

a deadweight and too much drag
Recently I had to ground run my aircraft after a 100 hrly . as a precaution I tied the tail wheel down to a steel drainage grate on the taxi way outside my hangar . Some one had borrowed my chocks and had not returned them [normal]. Throttled up to max power to check for oil pressure ,temperature et...

Re: EAA - FAA Program Enables Using Some Off-The-Shelf Parts In
In my part of the world [Australia]when I questioned our authorities about VARMA , the answer I received was [very open ended] , [Their words]. If it looks like a duck , waddles like a duck ,has a duck bill , it’s must be a duck BUT you [approved engineer]must sign off on it as being fit for purpose...

FAA VARMA program
As no one has mentioned it so far but it’s important development . The FAA has introduced a VARMA Article which covers our aircraft . VARMA means “Vintage Aircraft Replacement and Modification Article . This applies to aircraft less than 12,500 lbs and made before 1980. Plus other conditions which a...

Re: 2 1/4" instruments on the stationary sub panel
I have fitted the EI small digital instruments and found them to be very accurate and worth every penny. Yes I had some issues [not EI fault] but they really came to the party. When things get ugly ,the instruments have a very bright warning lights that catch your attention. Plus they self test ever...
