corrosion, how much?
Think of corrosion like cancer. How much is OK? Imagine if you were in the position of having to sell the airplane to someone else? How would you feel about the corrosion and how would you represent it to a potential buyer. There is an insidious opinion that has crept into the vintage/classic airpla...

Re: cock-eyed ball
Hoog, could be that your airplane's not sitting level on the ground in the roll axia. That's the case with mine. Check it by measuring from the ground up to the wingtips, while parked on a level spot. Mine's off by a couple inches,if I recall. A friend had the same situation with his Cessna,he fixed ...

Re: C-170B Pre-purchase Inspection
I just made a verbal deal with a fellow on a 1954 C-170B a couple of days ago. Not only my first C-170, but my first aircraft ever. I mailed off the Conditional Sales Contract to him today. Next on the list is the pre-purchase inspection and this is where I need help. The A&P where the aircraft...

Re: Diode
I gave a text description of how it connects, but if you look at any of the post-67 electrical diagrams for the battery solenoid (master relay), it'll be dipicted.Rudy Mantel wrote:Is there a diagram available for the diode installation ? Perhaps a Cessna Service Letter ?

Re: SNAP CRACKLE AND POP!
WHERE THE HECK WOULD A 14V SYSTEM COME UP WITH 600V? I am no genius at mathematics but what kind of transformer would it take to produce such a massive energy output? I certainly may be wrong but 600v would be un-controlable across any size of switch used in modern avionics! My friend in the ...

Re: GasCaps/filler neck
Thanks Tom, for clarifying that. I had a fear of someone doing this in situ.Thomas Hall wrote:You remove the retainer ring before you attempt to remove the filler neck. Do not work on the filler neck on the fuel tank. Tom

Re: Salvage yards/parts sources
George, Thanks for the new site. I really appreciate all the work you've done in making this a reality. Would it be possible to compile a list of recommended sources for C-170 parts? Maybe it could be placed in The Hangar, The MX Library, or in a members-only area. The latter might encourage C-170 ...

Re: poll
Joe... My A is faster than George's how do I get at the poll thing? I still can't get those little smiley suckers working. Bob :D This "speed" thing is not about your A model vs my B model. This about Joe's airplane. In fact, it's even more specific that that. It's about Joe's airplane wh...

Re: 2 inch Radio Above T Yoke on 170A
Does anyone know if a two inch high GPS/Comm will fit at the top of the panel just right of center. The space looks tight to me and was wondering if anyone has done this successfully. My current panel has the Tach and 2-1/4 EGT in this space right now. My radios are down below the co-pilot and are ...

Re: Gas Caps/ Filler Necks
The filler neck is is screwed into the retainer ring. To remove the filler neck, use a small electric grinder like a dremel tool or die grinder and grind out the two staked indedentations into the retainer ring. Caution: be sure to remove all the material where the neck is staked. If any material i...

Re: fuel tank
Why was only one tank installed in left wing from factory? I have some ideas but thought someone might know. 48-rag - John The 170 was a further development of the 140, which had one tank in each wing. In order to accomodate the increased fuel burn of the C145 engine an additional C-140 tank was ad...
