Re: Bracket, landing gear left outboard

You didn’t say where you are, but if you can get the airplane to west central Arkansas, Mountain Airframe is one of the best in the business. Ask for Del Lehmann or Brett Ham.

Re: IFR Capable 170's

If approval wasn’t an issue, I’d try routing one side to the engine manifold, and the other side to your venturis. That would permit gyros to be spun up as you taxi out. A problem with this idea might be that tapping into the intake manifold would cause those three cylinders to run leaner, similar ...

Re: According to some “Taildraggers Suck”.

Sounds like he was basking in self-congratulations and quit flying the airplane before he shut it down: Back at Airlake Airport, I surprised myself with an artful crosswind landing and was feeling pretty good as I taxied off the runway. Then a mighty gust caught the little J-3… BTW, I became a membe...

The shunt is part of the ammeter. When I upgraded to a Jasco 50-amp alternator in 1990, I replaced the ammeter with a +/- 60-amp unit.

Columbia was one of mine and Karen’s favorite destinations when we lived out that way.

Re: 75th Reunion Celebration group parking at Airventure 202

… Finally I have to mention the crew that put together one of the best type club parking events EAA has ever hosted, Dan Wood, Dave Finemore, Joe and Robin Smothers. These folks facilitated a bunch of Cessna 170 owners, and potential owners, getting together, sharing their experiences, and promotin...

Re: Weighing the Aircraft

I’ve always had mine weighed full of fuel and subtract 225 lb at whatever the arm is to determine empty weight and CG. I also leave the headsets, handheld and portable avionics, and whatever usually lives in the glovebox and seat pockets in the airplane because it always flies with that stuff.. Lega...

Re: Future 170 Caretaker!

I once took off from near sea level (Slidell, LA) and climbed to 14,500 in about 45 minutes; stock O-300, solo, 1/2 tanks. It was in the pre-smart phone era so you’ll just have to take my word for it.

Re: 2023 Cessna 170 Convention, Sault Ste. Marie Michigan

If anyone not currently planning to attend the Convention and can afford a few days before Oshkosh, we have room on all of the tours, and the hotel is undersold on our block of rooms. The only thing we are tight on is transportation, so if you plan to fly in let me know ASAP so arrangements can be m...

Re: School me on Venturi horns

Whether you mount one or two venturis, mount them in the exact factory location on the right side of the airplane. When I first got my B-model it had somewhat haphazardly located 4” venturis, one on each side. They were just barely able to run the original style DG and AH. Switching to 8” venturis d...

Re: Give one of our own some support

Duane called me sometime back to say this was what he and Pauline were doing this summer, and consequently wouldn’t be attending the 170 Convention. I can’t say I’m not a little jealous! It’s coming up on 20 years since Karen and I took ‘98C up there. Did Duane and Pauline arrive by 170, or did they...
