Alternator Upgrade

I want to upgrade my 56' 170b from the old lower-power 20amp Delco Remy generator to a new alternator to provide more power. I'm looking for advice on which alternator to order from ACS and what other parts/accessories will be required. Obviously, I need an alternator, but what else? - Voltage regul...

Oil Pan Heater Pad

I live in Canada, it can get cold. My hangar isn't heated and I'd like a way to keep the oil warm throughout the winter so I can just fire up and go, without excessive warm up or putting a hair dryer in my cowling for hours. Anyone have experience with these? https://www.aircraftspruce.ca/catalog/ep...

Re: Alternator STC

I'm on my third generator in three years. What a piece of garbage. I'll be upgrading to an alternator next time it fails. I have a 20amp Delco Remy generator. It ALWAYS leaks. I've had one fail completely, and the second generators drive draft stripped after only 20 hours rendering it useless. Right...

Generator Light Issue

Tonight in cruise flight, the generator indicator light on my panel turned red, indicating the generator was not working at cruise power which is usual. However, my ammeter was still showing a positive deflection with most of my electrical system/lights on—this gave me conflicting messages. I decide...

O300 Baffles

I'm looking for new port & starboard baffles for my O300. My baffles are cracked from heat & vibration, and when I took them off to do some engine work, many of the mounting holes cracked right off like dry crackers. Are these the correct ones to order? Specifically— AF0550164-8 AF0550164-7 ...

Re: Leaking Compass

Topped it up with fluid and a repair kit, good as new.

I'm assuming there was no radioactive elements in the compass, as the last service date was 1990.

Not glowing green

Re: Leaking Compass

Buy the Spruce repair kit. Submerge the compass in a bowl of fluid to allow the bubbes to escape before your close it up.. Lasts another 20 years and no operational issues. (Worked for me on several different airplane compasses and despite the criticism of purists, have had zero problems. Before 197...

Leaking Compass

My compass started leaking fluid onto my panel.

I removed the face cover from the compass, and it looks like the gasket/seal inside the compass popped off.

Am I able to repair the compass with new seals and top up with fluid? If so, which seals and fluid do I purchase?

Thanks

Re: Door Keeps Opening - Bolt/Latch Worn

Reese. most of the time a door opening is an indicator that that spring that is suppose to keep the latch out holding the door closed, is broken. Despite you taking a very nice close photo of the latch, I can't see a spring at all on your latch which is somewhat unusual unless the spring has comple...

Door Keeps Opening - Bolt/Latch Worn

My door latch is significantly worn on my 56 170b, and my door pops open at every hint of turbulence and on all landings. The handle mechanism still works well, but the bolt/latch is worn. The strike plate looks fine. Is there a replacement part available to swap out the worn bolt/latch, or do I hav...

Two questions—

1. How do I test the gauge?
2. P/N for new probe?

I inspected the harness. It's old, but looks OK

Broken CHT - Replacement?

My CHT gauge stopped working in flight today, and I'm looking for a replacement/repair. My AME and I took the system apart, but couldn't see any broken wires or obvious signs. I'm not sure if it's the gauge, wires, or probe—impossible to know without replacing each piece independently. I figure it's...

Re: Tailwheel spring corrosion

Reece, I can not recommend you buy a whole new set. Due to time loss of manufacturing specs have gotten muddy as well as material availability has lead to considerable thickness variances of the springs you will receive today. Unfortunately I would give your chances of receiving a new spring pack t...
