Re: How to install a Baggage Door?

Minton,
Can you tell me what the frame 90 circumferential is? :?: Is that the interior reinforcement that surrounds the door opening? Or is it something else that I need to ensure is part of the deal?
Thank you.

Re: How to install a Baggage Door?

Hello Everyone, I am adding a new reply to this old post of mine. I have found a baggage door off of a 1968 C-172 that a guy is willing to sell me. My plane is a 1959 model C-172. Does the fact that the donor airplane is an Omnivision model make any difference? I have pictures of the door on the don...

Re: Engine Upgrade

Blueldr, I could sell the 172 and go thru the hassle of finding another clean example (yeah good luck with that) of an airframe that I like as much as this one. What I am interested in is adding some speed performance to an airframe without going nuts on the fuel burn rate. I don't want a dedicated ...

Engine Upgrade

Happy New Years Fellow Assoc Members, I have a fairly low time O-300 and new prop (TSMOH 325 hrs, Prop 25 hrs) on my C-172. I have gotten to know the plane well since purchasing it and by and large am satisfied with it. But like anyone else I would like more speed. I know that there are STCs out the...

How to install a Baggage Door?

Hello and Happy New Years Fellow C-170/172 drivers, For quite some time I have been interested in perhaps installing (or more likely having installed) a baggage door in my 1959 C-172. About one year ago I saw one listed for sale in our trademart, but I hesitated and someone else bought it. Does anyo...

Re: C170B w/180hpCS POH

George & Bruce, Been out of town for a while and just getting back. Thank you for the replies. I should have emphasized that I have a 1959 model C-172. That way there would not have been any confusion that it is a model 172 and not an A,B,C... model. The serial number is 46026. I read both of yo...

Re: O-300 Recommended oil level

I have a O-300A model in a 59 C-172 and have noted the same oil level. The engine likes to be around 6 qts. More than that and it dumps it overboard resulting in a oily belly. At 6 qts. I find it burns a qt about every 4 hours or so regardless of the power setting.

Re: C170B w/180hpCS POH

Hello guys, I read this thread with interest. As an owner of a C-172, do the comments about the POH not being required apply to my 172 also? Since my plane is a contemporary of the 170 (and shares the same type certificate I am told) I would expect so. I got a pdf of the owners manual and have been ...

Re: Radio Issues

George,

I don't know how the antenna actually works. I always thought it was just mounted. Is it in fact supposed to be electrically bonded/grounded to the base structure? :o

Radio Issues

Good Evening 170ers, I have a Narco 12E and a KX-170B radio in my plane. They are switched thru a KMA-24. Both have always worked well until my recent camping trip to Oshkosh. During the trip the plane was exposed to several heavy rainstorms. Now I am having problems with the transmission and recept...

Re: some one year project progress photos

Kyle, Nice workmanship. I see that you have the same floating panel as my 59 172. If you are interested in changing to a standard six pack configuration; I modified my panel to use a standard configuration with modern instruments. I believe there are pictures of it that I posted to this forum. I sen...

Desired Mods - RH window & Baggage Door

Is it possible to install an opening window in the RH door? I have a 172 and operate in Florida. It would be really nice to be able to open the RH window. Is there any way to accomplish this? In a manner similar to installing a baggage door? While on the subject of baggage doors does anyone have any...

Re: Instrument Panel Tilt

The esteemed GAHorn wrote, "Cessna averaged the matter due to the 3-point stance of the 170 and installed instruments for zero-tilt, while the virtually-identical 172 (except for it's level, tricycle-gear stance) used 7-degree instruments." Can you tell me what the tilt angle is for a 1959...

Re: O-300A Oil Leak from Carb

My engine was overhauled in 2004 using six new Millenium Cyl's. It was done by a previous owner and I have receipts/yellow tags/etc in the plane's records totaling about $22k. They didn't cut corners as best I could see. Overhaul was done by an AI at the field where the plane was long time based. Th...
