Re: What do you clean the outside of your engine with?

I use a simple spray bottle with alcohol and a rag, it's what my IA does. Works great and any residual quickly evaporates.

Re: Cyl/Exhaust Temps

I was only emphasizing the central point of the topic …because the discussion appeared to drift into variances based upon probe type & position. There is no allowance in the TCM manual for a differing CHT-limitation using a different type probe or in a different location… It seems (to me) to be...

Re: Cyl/Exhaust Temps

I have read articles and told by AP/IA's on updraft engines the CHT Probe should be on a top spark plug, mine is on No #6 Top. Appreciate any tips on Oil Additive, Cam Lube for LYC, how about AV Lube for Cont? Marvel Mystery in Fuel? Thanks JD Smith I realize this is an old thread, but found in a s...

Re: Pitot Tube Drain Hole

The static port is not connected to the pitot tube in any direct way…so no transfer of water is possible between them. Chances are any water you observe at the static port is only at the surface due to capillary action and is unimportant. The Original pitot tube (unheated) was a 1/4” aluminum tube ...

Re: Sportsman STOL

Awesome! The Sportsman STOL kit is on my list of to-do one day as well. My ASI barely registers on short final / initial takeoff climbout, so I'm curious if yours even starts moving at all by the time you're flying  You can accomplish that exact same behavior if you just put a piece of masking...

I also run the RG-25XC. It's the same size as the RG-25. Both are great batteries - love the XC though, have had no issues.

Would Barkeeper's Friend and a damp rag work? It works wonders on my stainless cookware.

Re: Pitot Tube Drain Hole

I'm resurrecting this thread after almost two decades :D See? Some of us do use the search function... Anyway, I am having the same issue in my 170. I park outside and after every rain (thankfully not TOO often in Socal but often enough in winter...), I can pretty much guarantee water in the lines. ...

Re: climb prop question

Keith, I have both a 80/46 and a 80/42 for my 53 170B with 180 gear, 8:00 tires and a 0-300A. The 80/42 gives me a cruise speed of 90/95 mph at 2450/ 2500 RPM which is where I've run it for years. The climb performance is excellent. I use the prop, not for extended climbs, but for get up and go. It...

Re: Fire Extringuisher Mount

Interesting system! I like it. Wondering where I'd put it. On the flap handle? :) Kidding...I have my extinguisher in the glove box - it fits there and easy to grab/pull out, but would prefer a different location eventually.

Re: Alternator or Generator?

I would do the alternator conversion if you can. When I first acquired my 170 (53 B model, O-300A), it had the generator / fuses. I flew it for awhile and then after a lot of random electrical gremlins that kept coming up, I decided to do the swap. We put in the Plane Power ER14-50 alternator (link ...

Re: New products for windscreens

A lot of the old time, and not so old time AK pilots I used to know all used lemon pledge exclusively. I did that for a while and now use Plexus and a brand new yellow costco microfiber every time. The microfiber gets rotated to other shop tasks after that and eventually ends up in the wash to be r...

I love the WashWaxAll product by Aero Cosmetics. A bit pricey but works fantastic!
