Re: Brake Line Retainer

My apologies for taking so long to reply! Yes, Jack is sold through the Landing Gear Works, and it is pricey. I got it for just a little less at a local Aviation symposium when they were introducing it, but I let Jughead and a couple more local 170 owners use it. We barter back and forth. It does al...

Nice Jack Design (split from brake retainer thread)

Just a warning , if you fit the rubber fairing on the rear of the landing gear leg , jacking the aircraft with the steel bracket Will damage the rubber fairing. The rubber fairing does make a great brake line retainer instead of the clips . The rubber fairing is a great solution. I will be headed d...

Re: More Tailwheel Bracket Trouble

Gary,

That is a bit confusing, but I believe he means the bottom of the U is down, as it is shown in the Parts pic. Here is mine, put back the way it came off.

Re: FlyQ Insight

I had FlyQ insight, but now have FlyQ on the phone when they made that available. So use flyQ on both my iPad, and the phone as a back up. I don't find much use for Insight, with the full EFB on both devices now.

Re: Frozen cables Control Cabin Heat

I just replaced my starter pull cable with an A-730. I plan on replacing the cabin heat as well. Knobs match the originals pretty much.

Here is the pic of one of the straps after installation. I've been very happy with them.

Re: Assist Straps

fullsizeoutput_3fc3.jpeg This picture is from another thread on here. Ray and Cathy do a superb job of building hand hold straps. I had them do mine and they put a 2500 lb tensile strength webbing in the middle of the leather. They replicated the flat construction of my original with high quality l...

Re: iPad plus Paper Sectional Charts

I don't believe paper charts are required if you have an iPad and up to date charts in your electronic flight program. I do believe in carrying paper charts with you in case the electronics fail. My paper charts are not necessarily up to date, but will keep me from getting lost using good old fashio...

Re: ADS-B Rebate re-introduced and tailBeacon info

The Garmin 82 is not an option with the GDX330 because you can't use it with a Mode S transponder, only Mode C transponders. Well so it is..... Apparently I had glossed over that because I sat down at the Arlington Air show, in the Garmin tent with a Garmin salesman. We were discussing the solution...

Re: ADS-B Rebate re-introduced and tailBeacon info

FAA document AFS-360-2017 says a 337 should be submitted to document the ADSB-out installation. Apparently that includes the airplane in my mechanic’s shop that had its Garmin GTX330 transponder upgraded to do “out”, but no other mods. Why is a 337 needed for that? That’s neither a repair nor an al...

Re: Angle of Attack Instrumentation

Rupert, I will be interested in your report and looking for it. I currently already use the iLevil ADSB portable in, so have been paying attention to the BOM solution. My other option is the Garmin GDL 82, so costs are similar between the two by the time all is said and done, but get more useful fun...

Re: Fuel dipstick

I read Georges post on this, early in my ownership, and have used the dipstick as he outlined in his directions since then. I have found it to be accurate enough as well, and can recommend it without hesitation.

I have the A model, and as George states, it works fine.

Re: Part 5/5 Missouri to Washington, Trip Report - N3934V

I have been eagerly waiting for this story to be written and posted here. Awesome "Tale of Adventure", and a pleasure to read and see the whole story of the trip. To complement Jugheads generosity and help to those of us newer 170 pilots, it was his original recounting of his trip to Harve...

Re: VGs and 8.00-6 vs 8.50-6

Onemore question on 8.50 vs 8.00 (both 6 ply) I presently have 6" Cleveland wheels and brakes, do I need different wheels or adapter to go to 8.50 and do I have to get double pucks instead of single puck I have now? How about tubless tires/wheels, if I could "seal" my current wheels,...
