Re: 53C back seat
Replacing the seat hinge bolts with pins is definitely the way to go. For size/length, I found that AN394-33/MS20392-3C33 pins with 1/16" x 1 5/16" hitch pin clips worked best, at least for my plane. (I wrote it down so I would remember the size if I ever needed to replace them.) Thank yo...

Re: New 170 owner
Congratulations Todd and welcome!! I purchased 5453C last month and I'm here, it seems, constantly looking for info. It is an excellent resource. I'm in south Alabama. Maybe we can get together somewhere.
Best of luck with your new bird!

Re: 53C back seat
There are two An3 bolts under the seat on the sides. They might be covered by the seat upholstery (mine were). They bolt into a little triangle piece riveted to the side of the plane. You should be able to see those before the bolt heads. Thanks David. I looked in the IPC and I think I see what you...

53C back seat
I can't figure out how to get the seat out. The center supports are loose but the seat isn't coming out. Where is it attached to the airframe? I suspect its behind the upholstery somewhere but can't see it.

C of A
I was taking the headliner out of 53C today and removed the bulkhead above the shelf where the registration was located. Behind the registration was the C of A dated 1956. The exposed edge was dust. I cut the pouch open and removed it but it's in bad shape. The important info is legible. Can this be...

Re: Aircraft Spruce...grrrr
I hope these are just isolated incidents. I have had the opposite experience so far. I ordered a new beacon yesterday and received an ETA of tomorrow. We will see. Sorry you guys have had trouble.

Re: Parts for 53C Whelen Strobe convert to flash-LED?
When strobes die... it's usually a capacitor in the power-supply or the flash-tube itself. When my unit failed I sent the power supply to Whelen and they repaired it, sent it back with a 1-yr warranty, and it cost me $192, including 2-way FedEx. That was in 2004 and it's still working just fine. Yo...

Re: Parts for 53C Whelen Strobe convert to flash-LED?
This just in from Whelen. The wingtip strobes he is referring to is the model OR6501G/R Hello Vern - See attached data sheets for your review. The 90520-55 will simply drop in and attach the same as the HRCFA. The wingtip lights will need 1 new wire run to supply power for the "strobe". Th...

Re: Parts for 53C
Hey Vern, I'm in the same boat regarding the beacon. My Grimes rotating beacon is on its last legs and I'm trying to decide between the 71055 and the HRCFAR. I'm also looking at the 90520 because I think it will go in the existing beacon hole with the A440 adapter, while the 71055 might require som...

Parts for 53C Whelen Strobe convert to flash-LED?
On to the next thing. I have (had) a Whelen HRCFR installed and its dead. I removed it and connected it directly to a battery and the power pack didn't even try. So. I am considering a replacement. I can go back with the same type or, I think, I can use the Whelen 71055. I like the 71055 because it ...

Re: Parts for 53C
Thanks guys. At least the springs only have to be replaced every 70 years or so. Apparently.. Do you recommend replacing both of them while your in there? Sounds logical anyway.
