Re: Lightspeed Delta Zulu
I've been using Lightspeed ANRs since they were first introduced, first the model 20, and for the past 10 years, three sets of Zulus. I've never had the plastic degradation that others have reported, but on two sets the ear cups finally started coming apart so last year I paid $50 each for refurb ki...

75th Reunion Celebration group parking at Airventure 2023
The Vintage Aircraft Association and The International Cessna 170 Association present the 75th Anniversary Reunion Celebration of our favorite airplane, the Cessna 170! To help celebrate, VAA has arranged for a reserved group parking and camping area at AirVenture 2023 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. AirVent...

Re: Wing root fairing stripped hole repair
There aren’t already Tinnermans in there? My ‘54 B has them, but they’re only accessible if you take out the fuel tanks.

Re: AOPA Sweepstakes aircraft: Cessna 170B
I hate the current bush flying fad. That airplane should be restored to original, not bushed-out.

Re: Airworx 180HP O-300 STC
... If a taller piston is installed in-place of a shorter piston….then a smaller amount of fuel/air mixture will be used in the combustion process. ... Closer but still not correct. The number of molecules of air/fuel is determined by the sucking volume of the piston, not by the volume into which i...

Re: Airworx 180HP O-300 STC
Think about it this way: at the start of the intake stroke there is no air in the cylinder, so at the end of intake the only air in the cylinder has been pulled in by the piston, and its volume is bore area times stroke. The engine breathes in multiples of displacement volume. Google "does pist...

Re: Airworx 180HP O-300 STC
Actually, taller pistons don't decrease displacement. Displacement is the volume of air that the piston pumps through the cylinder: bore area times crank throw. Clearance volume above piston travel affects compression ratio, but not displacement.

Re: Brake Pipe Close to Failure
Good find. I've always disliked the lack of clamping or support on that line.

Re: High CHTs
The problem with Alcor gauges is that they use galvanometer movements, where the needle position is proportional to current. But thermocouples are voltage-output devices, so the gauge calibration depends on the total resistance of the probe, connectors, wire, and gauge internal calibration resistor.

Re: High CHTs
Also make sure you’re using the correct probe type for the meter. A J-type thermocouple will give high readings if used with a gauge that expects a K-type.

Re: Throttle Cable Interference
My personal opinion follows. I try to avoid attaching unrelated items together because it amplifies the amount of work required by a job. If I have to remove my glove box to access the engine instruments or vacuum hoses above it, I really don't want to have to mess with an Adel clamp, especially whi...
