Re: Tire STC?

Well, I took the FA Dodge letter and other documents to my mechanic, but field approvals and mechanics signing off on alterations is not a thing in Canada. It has to be approved by Transport Canada from the top down.

I'll follow up with TC and see what my options are. Thanks for all the help.

Re: Tire STC?

I can tell you that you need to have this installation entered in the maintenance records by a repair station or certificated technician with a signature indicating return to service. Had you installed them yourself, you could have made the record entry perPart 43 Appendix A (c)(1). But you didn’t ...

Re: Tire STC?

It’s possible that the original poster’s question remains unanswered. The shop who installed the tires did him no favor. IMO, they returned his airplane to service with these tires by completing the installation and allowing him to depart with it. Knowingly performing this work and refusing to prop...

Re: Tire STC?

Reece… I believe it could be summarized by saying that most of us feel that owners should be able to accomplish minor alterations without fear of federale vigilanteism. The intricacies of legalese language become stumbling blocks unnecessarily in many cases. For example, if the phrase FAA included ...

This may be helpful. https://fadodge.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/FAA-Approval-Letter-for-8.50-x-6-tires-dated-3-26-2013-and-clarifications.pdf x The comments following are not to disparage the installtion of the 8:50 X 6 tires. They only remark on potential legality details of this discussion. T...

Tire STC?

I just replaced the tires which came on my 1956 170b with the same ones, the Goodyear 8.50—6 tires Part # 856T61-1 When I dropped the plane and tires off at the shop, they called me saying they would install the new tires, but wouldn't write it in my tech logs because I did not have the STC. What do...

Oil Filler Cap Seal?

The seal inside my oil filler cap has worn out. The cap now rests loosely on top of the filler neck in the engine and I need a snugger fit. The seal inside the oil cap is not listed in the illustrated parts catalog. Does anyone know the part #? It looks similar to the fuel cap seals on my wings, but...

Re: What Tires Do You Use?

I just reviewed this choice my self. My flying includes pavement and grass with an occaisonal dirt to grass transition so at $100 cheaper per tire I stuck with my 8.00 x 6 tires. I tried to go 4 ply but the backorder was too long so I now have 6 ply getting ready to install any day now.... Yup, sou...

Thanks for the tips everyone, I think I'll just stick with what I've got.

Figure I'll replace the tubes at the same time. Anyone know which tube model to order? 8.5-6 tire...

What Tires Do You Use?

I need new tires for my 170B, and wondering what rubber you all use? Currently, I have Good Year Aircraft Rib 6-ply 8.5x6 tires. They seem to be a good tires & size (not sure of the exact height). I'm quite astonished at their prices though, $485 CAD each! Ouch. https://www.aircraftspruce.ca/cat...

Re: Windshield Mount Broken?

We are looking at two parts. That base at the very top of the aluminum strip is a base for a antenna mast. Your are missing the mast. The mast is made from the same material as pulleys but who's name escapes me at the moment. The antenna was a long wire that probably exited your boot cowl in front ...
