I know your post is seeking advice as to how to make the repair. My concern would be,if this repair was done that poorly, where else are you likely to find poorly executed repairs or maintenance. Repairing that skin may just be the tip of the iceberg.

John, When we disassembled the gear, there were no shims installed. The wedges were tight against the gear leg, and the bolt wasn't bottomed out. So the thinking was there was no need for the shims. They used an engine hoist and cable attached to the engine mount near the firewall. Then added a high wing jackstand at the tie down ring to stabilize the whole airframe. I'll try to get a photo tomorrow.

Thanks for the encouragement. Although I can't take much credit for the repair. Other than cheerleading and taking photos, I am leaving this repair to the pros. I know my limitations and I have a great shop here at the airport where we live. So this is in their hands.
