Re: TX C170 Fly-in Sept. 12th, 2020 Lufkin

Two 170s, and four members: LeRoy Fournier, Pete & Judi Coffey and Karl Towle gathered at the restaurant in the terminal at Lufkin (LFK) last Saturday for our monthly Texas fly-in. The weather was ideal, and the traffic pattern was hopping with Young Eagles flights. We thoroughly enjoyed the exc...

All our monthly fly-ins are great fun, and this one was one of the best. Let's hope for many more, and thanks to Ken for tirelessly organizing them.

Re: C-145 Dipstick and Oil Fill Cap Seals

When I faced this problem, I did what George suggested; I found an O-ring assortment and selected the size that fit. There was a discussion some time back about installing the O-300-C or -D engines. The subject of the "oil gauge rod" came up. It is important to realize there are two very d...

Re: Left the master on...

If I may piggy-back on George's comments, there are two types of oil pressure switches. Old autos with "idiot lights," used a switch that connected its terminal to the housing (ground) when the oil pressure fell too low, thus turning on a warning light in view of the driver. This would NOT...

Re: installing Cessna 175 tanks in my Cessna 170b

I didn't find this thread until now, some years in the future. Chris at Del Air was very helpful with my swap of C175 wings onto my 54 170B. There is the letter from Cessna that discusses swapping wings. Per that letter, the 3 things that have to be addressed are: increased fuel capacity, different ...

And, one should note, the rebate check will arrive payable to that same LLC, so if you don't have a bank account open it its name, you may have difficulty depositing the check. Happened to me with a trust as owner, but I finally won.

Re: Rosen Sunvisors

Just looked up this thread, as I'm getting ready to install these in 33C. I've downloaded the documentation from Rosen. On page 7, I find the following: http://www.rosenvisor.com/componentpdfs/RCS-300-1.pdf Note: DO attach the bracket to the windshield side of the overhead, so that the bracket is no...

Re: The journey begins. 170B project.

It might be worth pointing out that if you get the wing(s) very far apart, you'll want to have it/them mounted in a jig for reassembly to get the twist exactly right. The project plane I bought 11 years ago had a heavy left wing that could not be corrected with rigging. Turned out the wings had diff...

Re: C-145-2H Engine Overhaul

You must have gotten the last Millennium cylinders available. No one has any in stock and they don't know when they will be available again. Maybe I just managed to snag the last set of 6 Millennium cylinders from Dart Aircraft parts in Waco. Other sources I tried were: A.E.R.O., Inc. in Illinois, ...

Re: Plane Power Alternator

Ditching the ring terminals for a cannon plug sounds like a great idea. In my case, I opted for the much cooler, inside surface of the firewall, and used stand-offs there as well. Heat is the mortal enemy of solid state electronics! I couldn't locate my old mechanical generator regulator, but found ...

Re: Plane Power Alternator

Having recently installed two such alternators, I can speak to this. The alternator output is connected by a ring terminal to a stud on the side of the alternator, and secured with a nut. The field connections are via a molded plug, that connects two(2) wires (red & white) and plugs into the rea...

Broken Parts

I thought it might be interesting to start a thread showing broken parts "horror stories." Let's hear about parts that have broken, the stories of how they were discovered, and pictures if possible. This one didn't happen to me, but Sal Buentello, my "cylinder" guy in Prosper Tex...

I'm very interested in learning the outcome of your investigations. I just completed installing my second one of these alternators on a 170B (the first was on an E225 powered Bonanza). Definitely keep us posted please!

Re: USB Charger for your stuff

I just spotted this charger at Sportys. If 24 volt capability is important; at $16.50, at least the price isn't too out of line.

The down side is that it has only two ports.
