As no one has mentioned it so far but it’s important development . The FAA has introduced a VARMA Article which covers our aircraft . VARMA means “Vintage Aircraft Replacement and Modification Article . This applies to aircraft less than 12,500 lbs and made before 1980. Plus other conditions which a...

Re: 2 1/4" instruments on the stationary sub panel

I have fitted the EI small digital instruments and found them to be very accurate and worth every penny. Yes I had some issues [not EI fault] but they really came to the party. When things get ugly ,the instruments have a very bright warning lights that catch your attention. Plus they self test ever...

check out u tube

On U tube there is a channel called “Skywagon university” and they have a comparison between Cessna 170B and a Cessna 180. His facts are pretty spot on but his cameras failed in the cockpit during the flights . It’s worth watching .

you also stated that the “Water” in the compass was.. Compasses have alcohol in them or a special compass oil. I worked in a shop where they used “Johnny Walker “ scotch whisky or “JimBeam”. The bottle on the shelf was for instrument purposes only but it evaporated by itself . Strange …

When I have taken passengers for a fly and they remark that was a good landing , my response is “ yes , I had my eyes closed “.

Re: Mixture cable part number

I have had the same problem,my mixture cable broke also. I was over 700 miles from home . Contacted McFarlane by phone and they sent one to my hotel . Great service , I had the cable in 48 hours from the USA to the middle of Australia . It did cost me plenty. But a great product. Not hard to fit. PS...

Re: Airworx 180HP O-300 STC

many years ago we fitted a “kit” from continental to increase the power output to our O-300 engine . there wasn’t any approval issued and was “going” to be a experimental . The cylinders were ported and polished and the pistons I think were C85 types. the carburettor jetting was made richer [ a new ...

Re: Loss of control w/electronic attitude indicators

The Garmin G3x is a great stable instrument[system ] and a back up that has least issues is a garmin G5. There is a recall on G5 batteries but Garmin has that under control.

with reference to the gear with the AN310 nuts , they have split pins fitted in the photo . However I have never seen an approved method of attachment like this . Hopefully the correct bolts were used .

Re: Loss of control w/electronic attitude indicators

OMG this is one lucky guy, It’s a wonder the aircraft didn’t break up in flight . I think Garmin has a lot to answer for this situation. Not wishing to start rumours but this is not the first time I have heard of a similar situation with this instrument . I am under the impression it doesn’t like vo...

Re: Question for the Mechanics

As George mentioned , use your own cylinders for overhaul as the history of cylinders from an engine overhauler isn’t known . A lot of cylinders are changed for various reasons . Some cylinders are repaired due to cracking and the new owners are not told of the amount /type of repairs carried out . ...

Re: Generator questions

My two cents on this , is if your 25 amp gen is doing a great job leave it . LEDS are the new way these days . LED landing lights last longer and I prefer the “color” they produce on the surface . Presently I run a 60 amp alternator and it’s an over kill and thinking about a 35 amp alternator . [or ...

Re: Future 170 Caretaker!

WOW 20 thousand feet . do you have an internal o2 system. . So what was the handling like at that altitude . How long did it take to get there ? That could be a record for a 170 .
