Re: Top Overhaul

I've heard good things about these guys as well:

http://www.jjairparts.com/

I bought a set of Millenium cylinders from them last year and they were very pleasant to work with.

Re: credit card fraud protection vs AvGas pumps

Thanks for all the responses. It sounds like there is no "perfect" solution. Ironically, not even 2 hours after my original post, I got a call from card services regarding a different Visa my wife and I frequently use... someone was attempting to buy about $200 worth of stuff from a Walmar...

credit card fraud protection vs AvGas pumps

I encountered a situation this past weekend where the credit card I reserve strictly for fuel purchases was declined. When I called the card company, they said it was because the "fraud protection" safeguards had been triggered since I was attempting a purchase outside of my home state wit...

Re: Low Compression on 2 Cylinders

But never buy a second hand cylinder even though it's been overhauled . You do not know the hours it's done and what cylinder temperatures it's been to . Plus the cost of overhaul is near the the cost of a new Assy. +1 on what ghostflyer said... having been bitten twice now by using overhauled exch...

Re: What did you buy for your 170 today?

No, I didn't. I've seen another 170 locally that did and yes, they looked awesome. In the end there were a few modifications I had to make, trimming here and there (like for the unused prop control lever on the -2H crankcase), and I had the engine on the mounts before we did any baffling so fitting ...

Re: What did you buy for your 170 today?

Some nice baffles will go well with that pretty engine and airframe. That paint scheme looks great! Thanks! I don't have any good engine pics with the new baffles on it, but you're right, they do dress it up nicely. It's almost a shame to cover it all up with the ratty old cowlings! The paint looks...

Re: What did you buy for your 170 today?

Installed this newly overhauled C-145-2H on the airframe over the past couple of weeks, as well as an overhauled carburetor and a full set of new Airforms baffles.

Back in the air, FINALLY!!!

Those of you on the Facebook 170 site may have already seen, but I just thought I'd share here that after 6 long months, my 170 is finally back in the air with a newly overhauled engine! Recall that I had a piston failure that sent metal flakes through all the bearings back in late July. I ended up ...

Re: Alternator fasteners?

Thanks for the links! I had the parts manual and now clearly see what fasteners I'm needing. It was staring me in the face all along... that'll teach me to not stay up so late in the hangar. Amazing how a little sleep can clarify things! I did not have a copy of that torque reference document, so th...

Alternator fasteners?

So I finally have my engine back from the overhaul shop and, evidently, 4 months has been just too long for me to keep track of some of my misc. accessory fasteners  I've lost all the nuts, washers, etc. that I need to reinstall the alternator. I'm struggling to find them in either the Cessna ...

Re: How to lift for main gear service?

A little late, but as promised, here are some pics of the frame I made to hold up the fuselage during main gear service. This is actually the MKII. The MKI that I built per the illustration in the 100-series manual broke under the sustained weight of the 170 (less engine) after about 1 week. Thankfu...

Re: Tail wheel spring

Corrosion is the biggest reason for replacing the stack. The main spring like Bruce said is the one that has the life limit. Wear is another reason to do it. I replaced just the main spring when I purchased our 170 about 6 years ago as there wasn't any logbook notation of it ever having been done. ...

Re: How to lift for main gear service?

Lucky for me, my mount is currently unobstructed since the engine is removed for overhaul. I'll pick it up by the upper mount locations at the firewall as everyone is suggesting and plan to build the cradle shown in the 100-series manual this weekend. If it looks good when I'm finished with it, I'll...

I hadn't thought to look in the structural repair section.

Looks like a trip to the hardware store is in my future.

Thanks Gary!
