Re: Sky-tec starter vs Delco Remy starter adjustment and switch

I have two Sky-Tec's, one on an 170B with a O-360A1A and one on a PA-18-95, Continental C-90. Would never go back and have no regrets. Installation was as advertised. Had good tech support from Sky-Tec. The C-90 was done on the plane, using a die grinder, with clay and template, that was 4 years and...

Re: 76" prop on a 180HP

Like wise, we have had the 80 " Hartzell for 6 or 7 years.. Can't be beat.. Very smooth and no limitations of the 2100-2200 rpm range..Great choice.

Re: PPonk STC

Another thought about the P Ponk mod, is that the gear leg is held in place by a 4 bolt secured block, where as the Cessna design is held on by the one main bolt. A few years ago, at King Salmon, Alaska, a 185 was taxiing for take-off, and both main gear bolts failed at the same time (the head of bo...

Re: transporting a 170

The Sky Van was built by the Short Brothers of Ireland, and was an exceptional aircraft, with excellent performance capability, and should NOT be compared to the later built Sherpa or Shorts SD330 or 360, which doesn't perform in the short field arena and has terrible cross wind performance. The SC-...

Another way to transport is by air. N3485C flew for repairs from Chandlar Lake to Fairbanks, AK, in the back of a SC-7 Sky Van.

Re: "Y" yokes

We put a 150 "Y" Yoke in our 170 in 1982, works fine, only change was it lowered the point through the panel about 1 inch, which required the use of horn style control wheels. Center stack radios, the instruments on the left are on a shock mounted insert (removal flight instruments) the re...

Re: Hand prop gone bad...

It is or was a Cessna 140. This accident happened 6/26/1967 in Goletal (Santa Barbara), California.. The aircraft was repaired and flew another 33 years (October 21, 2000 in MCCLURE, PA) until it had an engine failure due to fuel contamination (probable cause) from a sloshing sealant material used d...

Re: Hero or Idiot

LUCK is sort of like the flip of a coin, Heads or Tails,. Luck often means your lucky-if it works out, or if it didn't, it wasn't his lucky day , .. It is a better option to bet on training, practice and experience, which increases the success rate. :D

Re: Hero or Idiot

Two Axioms that I have heard for many years that are also Trueism.. "Those that have and those that will." , and second, the idiot is the one who will tell you it can't be done while sitting in his rocking chair, the hero is one whom is out there doing it over and over, who will considerin...
