Re: IOWA'S 170
yes and what type of screw is used in this area? thanks dave Assuming you still have the original tinnerman anchor nuts in your wing, you need the #8 size of these in 1/2-inch length. These Tinnerman fasteners wear out or break after decades of use (in and out every year). The only way to replace t...

Re: IOWA'S 170
That is a Schroers glare shield (STCd). Bob Schroers was a TIC170A member from Washington state, and is no longer with us. I won one as a door prize at my first 170 Convention in 1985 and it has been in my 170 ever since. To get it away from me you’d have to buy to whole airplane. IMHO, the panel j...

These Continental engines were built with a drop of oil hanging on the end of the starter shaft.

A piece of aluminum or plastic and flat black paint works great.

Re: Surefly mags
Electroair here in Howell Michigan also has an electronic ignition certified for the O-300. But, at about 5.5 AMUs (before installation), it would take over a thousand hours to pay for itself, even if it saves as much as 1gph running $5 avgas. I’m not at all certain I have that much flying left in ...

Frank, the wires are iron/constantan and its kinda hard to get a good connection between these two wires and then get them soldered to the edge of that ring......they really don't cost that much. What's the best source? Is it any old K-type ring thermocouple? There are several sources Frank. Aircra...

Re: SK 70A52-4 service kit parts
The little tang on mine has been missing for 48+ years. If I remember correctly, to replace this part the tail feathers have to come off to access a couple of nuts. (Should have done this several years ago when I had them off checking for corrosion) Really has presented no problem in over 3000 hrs....

Re: CHT gauge died... :(
A somewhat similar issue yesterday for me. Just finished my annual and made a first flight. Noticed the cylinder head temperature (#2) was only showing 200 degrees. On the return trip no temp at all. I moved the ring on the transmitting cable 180 degrees as I was concerned the cable might ground ou...

The part,Channel - Tailwheel spring retainer 0510000-31 is #36 on Fig 25 in the B model IPC. The L-19 equivalent has been found at Air Repair Inc http://www.airrepairinc.com/ This is a very common issue. Fact is if you checked 10 170s, your likely to find 9 of them have a crack in this area. You're...

Re: Bartone Exhaust
Advantage I've heard: Keeps cowl cleaner. Makes cowl removal easier. Less drag thus more speed Less sound or nicer sound in the cabin. Less CO2 in the cabin. Pretty easy to see #1. If your current fangs make your cowl hard to remove/reinstall, you will see how #2 could work. If you understand drag ...

Re: ADS-B uavionix updates
I bought the GDL82 from Chief Aircraft and installed it myself. It was a very straightforward and easy install but not as simple as the Uavionics unit. You do have to install a GPS antenna but can use your current transponder antenna for ADSB. The hardest part was building the connector. I also cho...

Looks similar to the one I built for our bird oh so many years ago living in Naperville, IL. Glad I don't have to shovel that snow again.

Re: How to install a Baggage Door?
I guess most of the weight added would be the two hinges and lock but I would have thought the weight increase less than 2 lbs. Also, the stiffening assembly on the inside of the door skin (which is part of the door), the door jamb assembly, and reinforcement material on the bulkhead that had two h...
