Re: Lubercants
I was recommended ACF-50 a while ago and have been using it ever since. I use it on bearings, pulley, etc and have had good results!

Re: Interior pics
You're right....I really have no idea. Just going by what I see in the logs and what I have seen up close. In my mind they are original, and that is all that really matters. Either way, I still like how it all looks.

Re: Interior pics
I have a pretty original interior in mine....seats and side panels have never been touched. The headliner was replaced at some point and is made of a really nice material. Aside from the one rip in the picture it is in good shape. I haven't seen any other headliners made with the material but I like...

Re: Floor wear plates
I have them installed in mine. I believe they were original equipment, but I'm not certain. I would be real easy to make them if you were so inclined. I have considered making new ones for mine since they are pretty scratched up.

170A Flap spring attach bracket wear
When I took off the flaps today I found the bracket that attaches the flap spring to the flap was badly worn. The part I am talking about is on page 11 of the parts manual (6-5) and is part number 0520120-2. Over the years I guess the rubbing ate away at the metal. If you own an A model I would reco...

Re: 27% 170B build
You inspired me....I just ordered the boys (and me :D ) a Piper Cub RC plane. It's almost ready to fly so not quite the same experience but hopefully it will inspire us to go big one of these days! I also ordered my dad a small ARF Champ for Christmas. When I was a kid, my dad and I flew RC, which a...

Brass Safety Wire
A friend of mine is working on a really nice Baby Ace and has used brass safety wire throughout. I really like the look of the brass, and I'm curious about the advantages/disadvantages of using it? I assume the brass might be easier to work with and a little softer. It's also about twice the price. ...

Re: How long is your 170's airstrip?
This is my dream too. I would want it to be at least 1500' long with good approaches on both ends. I would want to open it up for people to come visit, and possibly allow a few small hangars to be built on the property. I imagine that insurance and liability might be an issue with opening it up to t...

Man, you guys are stylin'. I need to keep an eye open for a matching set of green jackets for my family. We don't want to be one-upped by you guys the next time we fly together!

Re: Wheel Covers/Hubcaps
I cut off the end of a zip tie and wedged it in the hole with the screw. Easier, but less elegant than a helicoil.

Anyone tried this stuff? I saw a demo at a car show and it was pretty amazing stuff. I almost almost got some but figured I would do a little asking around first.
Is this the snake oil that just might clean up the undersides of my wings??

Re: Safety Stands
I currently keep blocks of wood under the caliper/gear leg. My worry is that a deflated tire would push the blocks of wood out and not allow the plane to rest on the blocks. I haven't had time to get out and attempt my solution, which will be to add a 2x6 between the current blocks of wood. I will r...
