Re: Stall warning failure
Does anyone know what the retaining ring looks like for this unit, that prevents the face from falling out of the case? And/or where to obtain one? I actually have 2 units now. On my original, the face will not stay in. On the other, the face cannot be removed; possibly super glued or somehow corrod...

Re: 170B vs. 172 Nose Bowl?
Wire-mesh reinforcement embedded with JB Weld has been performed successfully to some of these cowls. Thanks George, it certainly would be nice to maintain the original cowling, will have to look into someone who can do this (it sure won't be me). Also based on the cost of a paint job, it is not go...

Re: 170B vs. 172 Nose Bowl?
Thanks for the information. My serial number is 26181, so I fall into the earlier (of the later?) 170B lower cowling.
Like many if not most of these there are a number of repairs on my cowling, mostly the lower, so just trying to think outside the box for replacement prior to painting.
Thanks,
Bob

170B vs. 172 Nose Bowl?
Is the 2 part nose bowl on my '54 170B the same as the early 172?
I tried to search 172 IPC; it looked like the upper part had the same part number but not the lower.
Thanks,
Bob

Vertical Magnetic Compass Excessive Movements
Just before my son's Private Pilot checkride the stall warning quit. Fortunately the examiner did not mind (wanted to make sure he was flying the aircraft, not the warning horn), and thanks to members the horn is working again. Since we have started working on the Instrument rating, the mag compass,...

Re: Stall warning failure
Reviving another thread, my stall warning horn stopped working also. The light still works. The back of the indicator/horn unit has terminals marked 12V and W as opposed to + and -. Is 12V the positive? Bob I have a new replacement buzzer that George Horn gave me that I never used, as my problem tu...

Re: Stall warning failure
Thanks George, I think I reversed the leads although I thought I marked everything carefully. Prior to my inspection the light worked but not the horn. Now neither works, and the bulb is good.
I noticed also there is no retaining ring for the light, it just pulls right out.
Thanks,
Bob

Re: Vx & Vy Speeds?
Here is the reference on page 27 under TAKE-OFF Minimum Run Take-off: 62 Takeoff.PNG As you note, this reference is IAS, whereas the Performance Data is TIAS. I had also obtained the same 172 Airspeed Correction Table; this probably partially explains why I can fly at 40 MPH IAS without stalling; ot...

Re: Vx & Vy Speeds?
I think you will find a few different threads on this topic, and I just brought up the 62/67 discrepancy a few days ago, with no explanation. The following information is my opinion but no doubt others will be able to add insight. The performance section of the AFM and the Owner's Manual for Flaps U...

Re: Flap assisted take off
This subject is interesting to me as I have been learning the aircraft and teaching my son for his PPL. Youtube videos often show lifting the tail first and then "popping" the flaps, but as George and Bruce stated we are unlikely to improve on the book procedure without a lot of practice a...

Re: Retractable shoulder harness? & Reaching the FLap Handle
No one has mentioned the B. A. S. shoulder harness; I installed these, inertial reel, no problem reaching the flap handle.
