Re: Outer Windshield Center Strip
We did rivet the top retaining piece in and then installed the windshield. It took quite a bit of effort to push the top of the windshield into the retaining piece, but we got it done! Nothing looks quite a nice as a band new windshield - like yours! Question though: Did I read correctly; you set a...

Re: Uavionics TailbeaconX
uAvionix has a trade-up program from my SkyBeacon and I already have an AV-30-C so the upgrade would cost me $1500. Between the transponder and the encoder I would probably save 5 pounds, and I would reduce demand on the electrical system. Brian - a comment on your theoretical $1500 upgrade cost. T...

Re: TX C170 Fly-in April 2nd, 2022, Bar VK
With weather as ideal as anyone could possibly ask for, 14 TIC170A members gathered in Karl & Nancy's back yard with 7 C170 airplanes for a most enjoyable fly-in. We loaded up and headed for the thriving metropolis of Sanger, Texas, for a delicious lunch at Babes Chicken Dinner House. They never...

Re: Tempest/F&M filter adapter AD
Personally, I almost never use 8 pt sockets. So, if you envision more future uses for a 12 pt socket, a Craftsman 1-1/4 inch will work fine for this application, and can be had for $9.99 here: https://www.acehardware.com/departments/tools/hand-tools/sockets/2295905 (Price may vary depending on your ...

Re: Outer Windshield Center Strip
Doug, I went with the rivet option - originality and all - you know. Here is a way to do it and retain your sanity. Get yourself a decent number of Cleco clamps that have the wing-nuts on top; so you can pull the layers up nice and tight. At least 20 would be best. Trim and fit the windshield so it ...

Re: Outer Windshield Center Strip
I've not had a lot of experience with this strap, but of the two I've thrown away, both had cracks to varying degrees. I'm not a fan of drilling holes in windshields if I don't have to. I know it's a pain to accomplish, but the locking strip Cessna came up with really holds the top of the windshield...

Re: Is a 6 Cylinder Engine Monitor Overkill on a O-300A
Way back in the 4th post to this thread, Dustin made mention of discovering two of his cylinders running hot during climb. I too have an Insight G2, and I discovered the same thing on my O-300D powered B model. I also discovered that pulling the mixture out to about 3/8" to 1/2" lean of fu...

Re: Taildragger Aviation still in business?
Hey Richard, does this L-19 latch, with it's lock pin feature, eliminate the need for the AN Screw that many people install in the bottom of their latch? If you have any pix of such a latch, I'd enjoy seeing them posted here.

Re: Uavionics TailbeaconX
Jim, I can only imagine how much more complicated gaining approval for something that will be used internationally might get. From what I read, the tailBeaconX should meet all the reporting requirements of crossing the north Atlantic on the NAT tracks. They may also be getting interference from othe...

Re: What are y'all using for push to talk?
Here's a shot of the yoke PTT I came up with before changing out my yokes. It used one of those miniature toggle switches, spring loaded to off. It was positioned on the yoke in such a way that I could reach it with my left index finger when grasping the yoke from the side, while I could also reach ...

Re: Uavionics TailbeaconX
The tailBeaconX is a total solution to surveillance. It incorporates a Mode S transponder, which accomplishes the functions of Mode C + Altitude. Some may recall the FAA at one point wanted to mandate we all install Mode S transponders. The Airlines did, but GenAv got a pass. So, you install this un...

Re: Tempest/F&M filter adapter AD
One additional item worth mentioning is that the instructions say to install the two new copper crush washers, splits in both facing the engine. Note: This is opposite the direction described in the original F&M instructions, or at least the instructions that came with the adapter I bought. Who ...

Here's a pic of last year's gathering. If the weather cooperates, we'd sure love to meet or exceed this wonderful turn-out. Please note that other aircraft types are welcome. Fly whatcha got, and come on out for a great visit, and tasty lunch!

Re: ADS-B tail beacon (uAvioni)
I was all for it but now I’m wondering how robust are the “Fins”? Knowing I’m always squeaking around the tail and end wall of my hangar, I can see myself endlessly kicking my other rear should I damage it. This was my concern as well. Even a tow bar, lifted too high, can collide with, and possibly...
