Re: Removing sound insulation make inside louder in flight?
I just did this recently. You'll notice a bit different tone/wind noise but not necessarily an INCREASE in noise. It's fine - remove that stuff, make sure you wear gloves and respirator.

Re: First TW night landing
Same here! I replaced the post light with a red LED and it gets the job done very well, even better than the LED instrument post lights I have controlled by rheostat, which are actually TOO bright, and on the lower rheostat settings, start to flicker.

Re: Headset Reviews
I flew with DC 13.4 for many years when I was younger - eventually bought a set of used Bose X ANRs and loved them. Tried the A20, really actually didn't like it so I resold it shortly after buying it. Ditto Lightspeed. Back to the Bose X for awhile, until I tried the QT Halos. I really actually lov...

Re: Cessna 170 selling prices (split topic)
I will say, I've owned my 170B for two years, bought for mid 40s and I've turned down a couple different local offers at the 60k mark going back to last summer to now. '53B with ~480 smoh O-300A & some upgrades I've done since such as harnesses, pull handles, alternator/starter upgrade. Has 9/10...

Re: Control Sticks in a 170
That is awesome! I'd love the 170 with a stick instead of yoke. Almost like a Broussard or Luscombe. Yes please! Hey Bryan- I think a simple stick could be attached to the tunnel with a U-joint and linkage arms connected to the existing T-bar yoke for pitch and clamp the roll linkage to the T-bar c...

Re: Airplane Storage - Outside tiedown advice request
I would also do what Mr. Pulley suggests. I tiedown on pavement outside, but no outside covers, only inside shades & cowl plugs, for the reasons mentioned. On gusty days out on the ramp, I'll see the covers & straps playing drumset on the paint and windows of the planes they are covering. Ad...

Re: Flap assisted take off
“Popping” flaps requires simultaneous rotation with “up-elevator: to “pop” the airplane up into the air. No, it does not. In my experience, I actually have to put a bit nose down if I want to stay in ground effect after popping the flaps. The pop alone lifts me off. There is no traditional "ro...

Re: Flap assisted take off
As mentioned I doubt there is much (if anything, less) benefit for popping the 170 off with flaps. Carbon cubs and extreme STOL birds, different story. That said, it is a heckuva lot of fun to do, and I do it half of the time just for kicks. It's not too difficult to manage, you raise the tail up as...

Re: VOR Antenna location
Looked all over the forums and also my logs and for the life of me, I can't find the p/n for the Narco NAV antenna (the "whiskers" version, mine is installed in the vert stab). Does anyone happen to have this P/N and whether or not it picks up glideslope? My radio is a Narco 12d+ (i.e. ha...

Re: Maintenance Induced Emotional Roller Coaster
Ha, yes I was down for pretty much all of the first quarter this year! My selector also took a dump the first day of ownership, before I even got the thing - thankfully it was in Richard's care at the time being ferried across. Besides the first annual, I converted to a B&C starter and put in an...
