Re: IFR Capable 170's
Gary, I feel certain your manifold /check valve scenario is the explanation; I haven't been able to squeeze in far enough to find it yet. If it is there I am also certain it has not been inspected in a long time. Miles, I am intrigued by your Safe Flight SVS, but have not been able to find any info ...

Re: Landing Light Surprise
Thanks for that information. I was also only getting the noise with the landing light, not the taxi light.
Will let you know what we find.

Re: Landing Light Surprise
Here are photos of the landing light installation, with the gap showing around the leading edge frame. I got a new LP Aeroplastics lens but have not had a chance to check the fit yet. Still wondering if anyone has experience with the LED bulbs causing radio noise. Thanks, Bob 20231027_155918.jpg 202...

Re: Landing Light Surprise
Hi guys, The gap is at the leading edge, so that the lens is set back from the bracket/frame perhaps 1/4". I ordered a new lens from Univair and will see if it fits better (or worse!). This is a good idea to adjust from the rear edges. I will let you know how it turns out. Thank you for the off...

Re: Landing Light Surprise
I purchased new Whelen Parmetheus G3 PAR LED landing and taxi lights while at OSH. They worked great but 2 issues arose: 1. When I turned on the taxi light (first position of the switch) it worked great, but when the landing light is turned on there is loud static noise on the COMM radio (GNC 255). ...

Re: IFR Capable 170's
Thanks for the replies; I will crawl up in there and see what I can find. Will also try blocking off one venturi for a test flight.

Re: IFR Capable 170's
Reviving a thread, I am pondering the venturi/vacuum system in my aircraft. I have dual venturis, one on each side of the fuselage. They run the AH and DG; turn coordinator is electric. There are 2 suction gauges mounted one above the other. I have not found any documentation of the installation, bu...

Re: Loss of control w/electronic attitude indicators
Most interesting to me are the following statements from the Transportation Safety Board investigation report: "The investigation attempted to determine more precisely the source of the initial fault. However, no supplemental information about the instrument, possible reasons it would require r...

Re: Yoke and Yoke Shaft Refinishing
After discussion with Brian and George, I decided to re-do our yokes, which were chipped. While in Annual I removed both yokes and shafts at the universal joint (not easy to reach the right one!) and had a local shop powder coat them and ordered the vinyl lettering decals from stickylife.com (I thou...

Re: Insight on panel
George,
How difficult is it to remove the yokes with the shafts? Would love to refinish yokes while it is in annual, but I am not an A & P.
Thanks,
Bob

Re: Basic empty weight
I had my '54 170B with stock C-145 engine and no major modifications weighed a few years ago:
BEW: 1330 pounds
CG: 39.70"
This was within 14 pounds and 1" of the calculated BEW and CG, based on the original Licensed Empty Weight.
