Just food for thought - the polyfiber (Stits) is a lot less flammable than the ceconite (nitrate dope) process. I did tests on both. The variations in the dope process for the ceconite may change it though. :)

What's up with some of these jet pilots? Its like they never flew any small aircraft - they had to start somewhere. I was landing at CRQ (a nice airport where they have kicked all the small GA aircraft off to make room for the large corporate stuff - but that's another story) and after I kept my spe...

I was taught to make a call to unicom and ask for traffic advisories when about 10 miles out from the uncontrolled airport I learned to fly at. I think that was mainly because there was so few aircraft in the pattern (none regularly) that they wanted us to have a idea of airport conditions before we...

Thank you for your advice Eric, Miles and George. I do have some of the books that you listed - I imagine that it'll take a little while before I get the directory.

170 Mechanics in San Diego

I know there are some association members in San Diego area. Could any of you recommend a mechanic? Are any of you mechanics in San Diego? I have used the Cessna dealer - and they are very good mechanics but are so busy they have little time to devote to my plane. I would like to find someone who is...

After reading my original post, I wanted to clarify that I actually didn't buy anything from George. He sent me information that showed the stall warning horn my mechanic wanted to install actually was not required equipment on my 170A. What really impressed me was that George was not as concerned w...

The story of sitting under the wing drinking a beer sounds good to me. How relaxing could that be? (my plane might still have two different numbers if they hadn't done that). As long as you don't try the stupid pilot trick of flying after you've had a few beers. I hear the trout fishing is good in I...

Thank you Jody. I agree with you. I have learned so much from this association the least I can do is support it.

Thanks Joe. I had heard about the N number mistake - I think from the guy who helped the family sell the plane to me. Its too bad I didn't get to meet Jim. Everyone I talked to really liked him. Its interesting to think of all the places the plane has been. I've been taking good care of her. I can u...

Hello

Hi, I am one of your stealth readers. I have been reading this forum for a while. I started before I bought my 170 and finally joined the 170 association. :D A couple of reasons I finally joined; When I was going through my annual this year my mechanic said I needed a stall warning horn. I e-mailed ...
