Melting Ice
Hi All, I am sure this has been discussed before but I did not find the subject when I searched. Are there any ice melters that are safe around our aluminum airplanes? I heard magnesium chloride and beet juice was okay in small amounts but I am not so sure and I had seen a few products listed on Air...

Re: Ultralight Helicopters
Exactly, very small thin blades with little mass.
The Rotorways are okay, a little underpowered but they fly okay. However the company is under new owners who are not aviators and no idea what the future holds

Re: Ultralight Helicopters
George,
Be careful. I have flown experimental Rotorway helicopters for years and although I have not flown one of the ultralight helicopters like the Mosquito, I understand a lot of people have gotten hurt on these as they are not very stable and their ability to glide (autorotate) is almost zero

Winching by the Tail Wheel
This may be a silly question but I have to ask. A friend at the airport who has a C195 told me that his airplane can not be winched or towed by the tail wheel. Apparently it is a weak structure on that airplane and the tail wheel support can be broken easily (although it is strong enough for taking ...

Re: Plexiglass Panel Overlay - 170A
Thanks Brian, I sent you an e-mail so you could forward me the files you have to play with. I also don't know if the split overlay idea will work or not. I was planning to place the split lines around the controls as much as possible to support the pressure and to solvent bond the sections together....

Re: Plexiglass Panel Overlay - 170A
The panel overlay in my plane could use replacement. From the work I have seen done on this message tread, has anybody created any Cad files of the acrylic with outer dimensions and hole pattern locations with the artwork as well? I have access to a laser cutter/engraver and would like to make a new...

Jason, Welcome to the 170's. I am a CFI with a 170B in Schaumburg IL. I can't help you with Oshkosh because I am flying there to, but if you can't find anybody locally, I can help you with training on Saturdays after Oshkosh as it is just a short flight for me to Madison. Best of luck Jim Collins C1...

Back in the early 80's I did not work for Bose but I worked for another acoustic company and while there, I designed a human model piece of test equipment that Bose used to develop the ANR technology. As a result, during the R&D phase, there was a lot of back and forth consulting work between my...

With grass, you often get mice trying to find a new home (ask me how I know) and over time the tires like to sink in. With pavement you can still get mice but not as often. Good luck

Yes, "MiniValve part # UM145.003-544.01 made from FVMQ (Fluorosilicone)" is an exact replacement. I have been using these and they are working just fine. I had to get these as a sample because their minimum order was too large and if I remember right, one order could have re-equipped all o...

When I had my first annual at "Blue Skies" in northern Illinois, they raised the tail to level the plane, added weight inside the cabin, measured the tow-in and camber and calculated the shape of a shim to set the tow-in and camber to zero and had a set made using CNC. Now the plane lands ...

Tim,
There are several 170 owners in the Chicago area. Most of us have used Poplar Grove Airmotive with good results.
Best of luck

Re: Calling All Rotorheads
George, In my rotorcraft experience, I always viewed the Bell 47 as kind of the piper cub of the rotorcraft world. The blades have enough momentum that learning auto-rotations is not too hard and fairly forgiving. Also, the response time (stick moment to rotor movement) is kind of in the middle rang...
