I am years away from retiring. Had a guy come through here to smell the land where he grew up, I think he was 79. He was not retired, but said he was temporarily un employed. He would do any thing for the right amount of money. We are here for such a short short time............I hope if I can make...

A lot of reasonable people say that the log books are 1/3 to 1/4 of the value of a good airframe. And thus, an airframe missing some logs is worth roughly 1/3 to 1/4 less than a comparable airframe with complete logs. If your airplane has incomplete logs and you think it is worth 42K, it may very we...

AWOS or ATIS

Gittingthe AWOS information or the ATIS information on the internet is cool but if you have the 496 it shows you the the AWOS or the ATIS for every airport in the country at any given moment.

If you have a 496 it will show you the TFR as they pop up and the 496 also shows you the text information about the TFR. Tell me that's not cool, realtime TFRs in the cockpit.

I've been out today experimenting wtih the panel page, assuming that I lost electric power in the soup and maybe at night. The 496's processor is supposed to be 5 times faster than the 396 and thus update the panel page 5 times faster........so they say. I was very impressed with how quick the 496 r...

Garmin 496

Just got my 496 in the mail. Paying the expensive package monthly($50.00) to XM Radio. The power and ability of this little machine is ridiculous. There is no information that you can get from 800-WX-brief that you can't get from the 496 that was just updated 3 mins ago. Forcasts any airport in the ...

While cruising around at higher altitudes and spinning the revs way up IS ok according to the book, be ready to have an engine that has never burned oil before............to burn oil at those rev speeds. I like my engine to not burn oil. I like to burn 7.5 gph and not 10gph. Just my personal feeling...

the way I was always taught to compete was parallel to the intended landing spot on downwind you must chop the power to idle. On base you can clear the engine once. No more power additions. Flaps, slips, whatever is fine and landings are done in a full stall configuration and the last bounce is your...

A 58 Baron is a great plane and the BMW or Mercedes of the sky. They burn lots of gas and like a lot of light twins their resale value is going DOWN. You can now buy a 58 Baron for about the same price as a similar year and equipped 36 Bonanza. They are great airplanes and it is now a buyers market ...

Headed down to lakeland on Thursday morning and staying through the weekend. I'll probably be parked in the warbird parking with my 54 C-180 that is yellow and brown but sometimes we end up in the vintage camping. Hope to see other 170 there.

If you call around in tradeaplane and work the price down you can now get a Garmin 295 for $ 950. I'd like to have the 296 if it didn't cost any more money but all that you really get more than the 295 is a faster updating screen and some dinky terrain. Good luck in your search.

Harold, I've had my 54 180 now since May and have flown it about 130 hours. Maybe at the next 170 thing we could park our big 170s side by side to help blend in. I'd love to see some pictures of yours if you have any to email. Send em to jyeaman@vt.edu . I'll reply with a few.

Thanks,

Robbie

I have the Rosens in my 54' 180 and they do a class job. I flew back from Midway airport the other night to Virginia and had the rising moon right in my face a lot of the way and man were the visors nice as the moon seemed as bright as the sun after I had my night eyes. Are they convenient and nice....
