Re: New Panel Overlay - A Work In Progress

Well, not making as much progress as I had hoped. Busy work schedule has had me glued to my desk lately. However, I was able to get out this past Sunday morning - and a lovely morning it was - and take care of my monthly VOR check, followed by a little practice flying holds over over VOR. The GPS ma...

Re: Interior Refresh

Ryan - your description and assessment is spot-on! I think that your step-by-step will save the next person a great deal of time and potential frustration. I completely agree with you: as much as the process was a bit aggravating (not specific to Airtex, but to the headliner), it looks great once it...

New Panel Overlay - A Work In Progress

Ok ... my wife are going down another deep hole, but it's been fun thus far. First off, feel free to refer to post: https://forum.cessna170.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=15342 where I asked a question concerning the re-chroming of the yoke shafts and re-painting of the yokes. Lively conversati...

Re: What’s my 170 worth

Thomas - I had my 170A insured for $44k (original purchase price). When I installed a Garmin 650 and a Garmin G5 last year, I had the insurance company up the amount to $55k. If memory serves correct, the premium increase was minimal - only around $50-60 for the year.

George:

Thanks for providing the snapshot from the IPC. My 170A has serial 19716 and I can confirm the baffles do "not" include the two additional pieces (1A and 7A) that you referenced.

Jughead and Jim - thanks for the quick responses! Jim, I'll speak with my A&P to see if he has thoughts around the front baffle mod. Appreciate the suggestion.

Cylinder Head Temps - Cylinders 5, 6

My A&P recently installed a new Aerospace Logic 6-cylinder CHT gauge in 62C so that I could keep an eye on all six cylinders (I had a top overhaul done at the beginning of the year and want to protect the investment). The CHT probes are spark-plug type (the cylinders do not accommodate bayonet p...

Re: Yoke and Yoke Shaft Refinishing

Progress update (summary: we're just getting started): 62C made it out of annual with no great surprises (always a good thing) and it's time to fly for a bit; frankly in no hurry to take her out of service again, so the things we're doing right now are mostly prep in nature. First off - some good ne...

Re: Yoke and Yoke Shaft Refinishing

Thank you for taking time to share your detailed post and excellent photos - this is exactly what I needed! BTW, I found a graphic shop that will be creating white vinyl transfer decals for the yoke for me. After downloading one of the many logos available here, I cleaned one up and gave it a transp...

Yoke and Yoke Shaft Refinishing

I need some advice from the collective wisdom. An upcoming project will be to remove both yokes and shafts from 62C and have them refinished. There are several threads in the forum(s) relating to having the shafts refinished using the aviation "hard chrome" process, and several more thread...

Gary - thanks for the link to the Mike Busch article ... that's exactly what I was looking for (and exactly the rationale behind getting the new gauge, btw).

Sorry, Miles - I have new Superior Millennium cylinders and will be using bayonet probes with the gauge. Thanks for the suggestion of "25-degrees lower".

CHT Gauge Limit Settings

My A&P will be installing a new Aerospace 6-cylinder CHT gauge in 62C early next week. It is PMO'd as a primary engine gauge and will slide in as a replacement for the current single-cylinder needle gauge on the panel. With new cylinders on the engine I prefer to keep an eye on the temps of all ...

Dan - that's great to know! I'm based at Falcon Field in Peachtree City (KFFC), just a short flight away; will have to fly down soon and check it out. Thanks for sharing!
