Re: 2022 Airventure 170 Pictures

Thanks for taking the time to post all these photos, Doug. I missed this year but looking forward to parking next to some of these beautiful planes next year.

Re: 170B Flap Handle Markings

Thanks again for the replies. Using the information provided, I created new placards for the flap handle using a drawing program on my iPad. Printed onto 4x6 glossy photo paper and stuck a protective covering of packing tape right on top of the image. Cut it out and stuck it on the flap handle with ...

Re: 170B Flap Handle Markings

Thanks for all the replies and helpful information. It is definitely the "Avoid Slips With Flaps Extended" placard that I need to replace.

The other flap placard is slightly inaccurate so I will make two new ones and get them installed. Thanks for the help!

170B Flap Handle Markings

While cleaning my interior metal pieces (microfiber cloth with distilled water), I accidentally wiped off the markings on the placard near the flap handle push button. Does anybody know what it’s supposed to say? I looked through all my photos and can’t find a single one of the flap handle. The foll...

Re: Delco Starter Parts

Thanks again for the help and advice. Just for grins, I compared the new part from Napa to my existing part. They look very much the same but the ST11 part I purchased has different dimensions and would not fit on the starter. I pulled the existing starter switch, cleaned it up and and put it back o...

Re: Delco Starter Parts

Thanks for the input, George (and for trying to save me a few bucks). I’ll have a look at the new part (arrives at the local Napa Airmotove/Vintage Tractor Parts Supply tomorrow) and see if the manufactured part line matches the current one. If it does match, then I’ll just return it. Here is a phot...

Re: Delco Starter Parts

Thanks for the info (and for saving me a ton of time trying to figure it all out myself). The fact that parts for this plane are interchangeable with vintage tractors is slightly amusing…

Delco Starter Parts

I am performing an owner-assisted annual on my ‘55B and found a cracked starter switch housing (Delco-Remy starter). It has been difficult locating a definitive replacement part for the cracked housing. Anybody know a replacement for this part? I have found a few items that look similar to this part...

That IS a great looking 170! Well deserved accolades.

Now I really regret missing Copperstate this year.

Re: Is a 6 Cylinder Engine Monitor Overkill on a O-300A

I'll have to check yours out next time I'm up at CCB. I am pondering one as well. How do you get the CHT readings? gasket style sender or probe? I don't think my cylinders (millenniums) have the bosses for the probes but I might be missing something. I’d be happy to show you my setup. My cylinders ...

Re: Is a 6 Cylinder Engine Monitor Overkill on a O-300A

I guess it depends on what you want out of an engine monitor. I think it is really nice to have CHT on all cylinders no matter what. Beyond that, my monitor has proven to be a helpful diagnostic tool when it showed a dead cylinder after startup one time…and it also let me know when the problem was s...

Re: Exhaust stack too short?

I wonder if those pipes will be equal lengths once they are swapped around and oriented properly. I’m curious to know what the end result is.

X-IT Carbon Remover does a fantastic job of removing the exhaust stains as long as your paint isn’t oxidized.

Re: Carb Bowl Leak

Thanks for the advice, George. I did a little research on my own as well. Came across Marvel’s SB-17 concerning bowl to body leaks. Since I wiped the carb down there is no evidence of leaks, but fuel stains were apparent beforehand. According to the SB, they backed you up by recommending the bowl to...

Carb Bowl Leak

During my oil change (C145-2H), I was doing the obligatory engine cleaning and noticed the carb bowl wiggled slightly while wiping it down. Did a leak check of the intake system and decided to spray a little soapy water around the carb as well. Good news is there were no leaks on any part of the int...

Re: Exhaust fit up issue

Just curious if you’ve tightened the risers to the cylinders before fitting the muffler. I went through this recently…had to loosely install the risers and exhaust gaskets then fit the muffler to the risers before tightening the risers further. Long cotter pins were helpful in keeping the gaskets in...
