Re: Silver Anodizing
A guy in another aircraft forum recently posted pictures of his white/silver cad plated AN hardware. It's not clear from his post whether he bought it like that or he had it white/silver cad plated. I've asked where he got it or where it can be done. I'll let you know when I receive a response.

Re: Engine roughness on climb
Another question: When it happens while you are climbing, if you don't touch any of the engine controls (throttle, mixture, carb heat) and just level off, does the engine smooth out and run normally?
Related question: Does it ever happen in level flight?

Re: Oil Pressure Guidance
I use a sewing tape measure to determine the length of flexible hoses needed. It's much more flexible and easier to use than a metal tape. You can usually find them in the sewing section of your local CVS, Walgreens, etc. IMG_0667.JPG My oil pressure hose (firewall to engine) measures out at 19"...

Re: Vented caps on both tanks ok?
Rich, I've been using vented caps on both tanks since I bought my '52 170B about 6 years ago. No issues, problems, etc. But that won't stop the uneven draining of the tanks. Mine still does it. My right tank almost always drains faster than the left when the valve is in the "both" position...

Re: 170A Fuel Selector Valve Leak
Doug, your fuel valve may be an Imperial fuel valve. They made a 3-port fuel valve like yours. The later ones used o-rings rather than packing. Although some sell used ones from aircraft on Ebay for ridiculous amounts, occasionally someone sells one for parts (or just the body and cap) for short mon...

Gary, would you post a copy of the actual/original SLN-56 in the MX Library? The link to SLN-56 you posted only has re-typed text from the SLN. It would be nice to have a copy of the original SLN in the library.

Re: Overhead Speaker
I believe that those Jensen Concert speakers came in both 4 ohm and 8 ohm versions. If you know the audio amp output of your radio, that would give you a better idea of whether it's a 4 ohm or 8 ohm speaker.

Re: Overhead Speaker
It depends on the audio output of the audio amp of your particular radio (if it has one) or your audio panel (if you have one and it has an audio amp). But 4 ohms is pretty common for 12V/13.75VDC systems. For example, a Bendix-King KX-155 with the optional internal audio amp has a 4 ohm audio outpu...

Re: Narco Escort 110 Manual or Pinout
Well, I found the pinouts from another source. Here they are: The pins are numbered 1-15, with "1" closest to the center of the rack and 15 at the outside edge. When you're looking at the rack from the back, it's normal left-to-right numbering ("1" far left). Pin Use 1 Ground (ph...

Narco Escort 110 Manual or Pinout
Anyone have a manual or pinout for a Narco Escort 110 NAV/COM that I could buy or borrow? We don't have one in the MX Library. I have an old working Escort 110 that I might be able to use for a non-aircraft project. If you want to keep the manual, I'd be willing to pay the postage to send it to me, ...

Re: Overhead Speaker
So, according to 91.405(c) you CANNOT leave that speaker INOP INDEFINITELY! You must either repair it or have it removed in some otherwise approved method. This is not entirely correct in view of a 2018 legal interpretation by the FAA. Despite the seemingly clear language of 91.405(c), according to...

Re: High static RPM
I also use a Tru-Tach. I know they are expensive and overpriced. But they are easy to use and reliable. Plus you can check the calibration with a common fluorescent light. Mine always checks out within 1 rpm of the fluorescent value. For a less expensive option, you might try finding a digital tach ...

Re: Recommended Modifications/Repairs for 170 Owners
Gareth, many (likely most) C-170's now have a Scott tailwheel, and a longer AN7 bolt is needed for that tailwheel. The figures you mention from the IPC show the original tailwheel. Fig 98 of the 170B IPC, for example, shows the "optional" Scott tailwheel version, and you'll notice the bolt...

Re: Brake master cylinder
Doug, I forgot that you mentioned that the bleeder is at the top of your caliper. I agree with Jim that if you have flexible lines at the calipers, you should slide the caliper off the posts and orient it as best as possible so the bleeder is the lowest point in the system. And as Jim mentioned, don...

Re: Brake master cylinder
I've always found bleeding from the bottom to be much more reliable on light aircraft brakes than bleeding from the top. You really don't need to push much fluid up the lines as any air tends to want to go up. I recently bled a brake line (from the bottom) after the flexible line at the caliper was ...
