Re: Roll Call: 170 base airport elevation?

KCCR, 26 feet msl, Continental IO-360.

(I live at sea level, but there are plenty of mountain airports within an hour or two)

Re: Wings not even at rest

The bent wing/wrong strut stuff should be easy to eliminate. The wing should be level when the aircraft floor is level. Don't count on your hangar floor as a reference plane. It's not flat and it's not level. Wasn't meant to be. If it is you paid too much. A 3' carpenters level works on the seat rai...

Re: Canada -US Border state Sept 2021

Unfortunately as of yesterday, the US border remains closed for Canadians, ( but ok if you fly in commercial :? ) Makes it a bit difficult to attend the upcoming Convention in NY state. I don’t understand the logic in this at all especially for those with two shots. Was hoping things would have cha...

Re: My T3 tailwheel is installed

My T3 tailwheel assy is on finally. I got the field approval on Friday. I am A DAR but of course cannot do them on my own aircraft. I will do Field Approvals for these on 170B's and 170A's with a 170B tailwheel attach structure. I am impressed with the attachment to the aircraft. It goes on easy an...

Re: 175 Wing Fuel Capacity on 170?

Header tank on the R172K is below the floor, 3qts if I recall. On the XPMods (or whatever he calls it now) STC with the TCM IO-360, the header tank is a Maule part, also 3qt. With the tank at shin level forward of the left door post. With either setup, when you get low enough on fuel to intermittent...

Re: Rear window replacement

The common rubber channel stuff works fine. It's cheap and will last longer than you plan on using the airplane. The old one seemed fine as installed - stiff but no leaks - but it was in 20 pieces as the window came out. I found that the downside of replacing the rear windows with new was that I now...

Re: Worn rudder pedals 170b

I found that my pedals were significantly worn (though not dangerously so) on the left side of the airplane, and nearly pristine on the right. While restoring the whole assembly, I just swapped them.

cheers,
Pete

Wow. That sure looks a lot easier with it sitting on the bench. And less painful.

Nice work.

Re: 850-6 4 PLY AERO CLASSIC SMOOTH TUNDRA TUBE TYPE (AA4K5)

24-26 psi looks about right. No rubbing on the calipers (single puck Clevelands) but it does look pretty close.
Might warrant a spacer.
I'll try a little lower pressure next time and report back.

Re: 850-6 4 PLY AERO CLASSIC SMOOTH TUNDRA TUBE TYPE (AA4K5)

They're soft. Not much experience yet. put them on a couple weeks ago - about 8 landings on asphalt and a couple on dry lakebed. The increase in sidewall flex is noticeable, and was a little weird on the first cross wind landing. There were a significant collection of 170s out on that lakebed (I cou...

Re: Carbon Fiber Cowl for Cessna170

How did Cessna form the nosebowls? Big stamping press? Hydroform? elves with hammers? The rest of the cowl looks pretty straightforward, though there's some compound curve to the upper surface. It's my nose bowl that suffers the worst after 67 years in service, sitting out on the shaky end of the pl...

Re: Baggage door for a CE-170A

I'm looking to install a baggage door on my A model. I will be heading to the junk yard soon as well as checking out any OEM or PMA doors. What models of Cessna have baggages doors that would be compatible with an A model? I've seen the STC for a CE-180 door but don't want to limit myself incase I ...
