Compass light resistor?

What is the purpose of the 750 OHM (I think) resistor mounted in-line in the wiring going to the magnetic compass light? I've discovered that the lead has broken off at the end of this square-ish (about 1.25 inches long) resistor, and hence the compass light wasn't working. If I temporarily provide ...

Thanks for the replies and advice folks. I have a number of options (been doing some interesting reading about AvBlend and the history behind it), but needless to say, I'll have to use car-gas and/or MMO and/or TCP or AvBlend or some bizarre mixture of them all. I obtained a gallon of TCP for the in...

Stuck valves

So, after 653+ hours on the trusty ole', C-145, I finally had a stuck valve today. Blasted off, got about 1/2 mile away from the airport (1500 or so AGL) and "poof", the thing started running like s.... I lean on the ground like a you-know-what, and I also lean in the air (as much as I dar...

You may want to have the axles/tires/gear aligned (with shims) to see if that will alleviate the abnormal tire wear. There's only one way to do a gear-box rebuild (the right way!). The manual says no damage what-so-ever is allowed to the front and rear gear-box bulkheads. I guess what I'm saying, is...

I've subsequently fingered out which IO-360 one wants. At the risk of drying up an already bleak used engine market for these things, you want to get an IO-360KB. The TBO for the KB is 2000 hours. The STC in question (XP Mods) also allows for an IO-360C or IO-360K, which both have a 1500 hour TBO. I...

Mine (also a Scott) won't hardly move on the ground
no matter how long you run it (at least with the relatively
cool temps we have in the Pacific Northwest).

I have to go fly it and climb/cruise for a few minutes
for the oil temp to start registering.

He tells it way better than I do, but a friend of mine used to fly for a living in that area (206s I believe). One day, his "passenger" was a live Lama. Nice enough animal.... They ended up tying the Lama's feet to the floor boards, but his neck was so long, his hairy head ended up between...

I did mine the same way (tied a big loop of safety wire on the aft end of the springs, so you'd have something to grab onto and pull on). Eric Taylor (zero.one.victor) posted a good idea, which is to remove the bolts at the rudder horn/bellcrank at the back of the airplane. That way, you can hook th...

Thanks for the ideas everyone. I ended up ordering the S1230-17 control from McFarland, but I like the idea of getting a white knob (original looking) instead of the replacement black knob that comes with the McFarland unit. I have to go up to KBFI anyway to go to the instrument shop, so I'll swing ...

Carb heat control for 170B

Pulled the carb heat out abeam the numbers today upon arrival at my home base, and the darned thing came out in my hand 8O (the white knob with about a 4 inch section). I dug through the parts book, and it says the following: Figure 42-13 Page 75 For serial 25373 - 26038 P/N = 0411090-12 Figure 42A-...

My '54 B weighs 1393 with the (stock) back seat installed, 1361.4 with the back seat out. This is with full paint, a decent interior, AN gyros, 850 tires w/double-puck brakes & Clevelands, an 18 lb Sportsman STOL kit plus various other "fluff" stuff. My next project is to install my (o...

Actually, it works... the picture didn't pick up the light somehow.

I checked it just the other night while I was about to do
some night flying.

That's OK, my ball(s) don't sit exactly in the center either! In my "defense", I was busy taking the picture (both hands on the camera instead of the yoke) while flying at 28mph indicated maintaining altitude. My story is that the reason the ball is out to one side is because I was, no dou...

I've gone on record here before saying I wouldn't spend the money on a Sportsman STOL kit if it weren't already on my airplane, and that I'd rather have the 18lb STOL kit weight off of my '54, but I have to admit it's nice to be able to fly this slow if/when you want to! I was fartin' around flying ...
